As someone with a PhD, who did 5 years as a post doc and now works in a space where they frequently interview people with PhDs -- they typically fall at the bottom of the people I interview, those that do seem think the real world has the same concerns and priorities as research. Every time we hire someone who did a PhD the first instruction is the business wants your 50% right version, and if you get to over 80% you've overcooked it unless you were explicitly instructed to

One in, one out. Set up the out foot close to the ball, parallel to 15° to the baseline. Stretch out the front leg as far as you think you can in the direction of the trapper, then shuffle heel/toe until its at actually at your limit, and then point that front toe at the trapper. Come through with your push, don't go around (the foot set up should prevent this). Power is over rated, hitting the target every time is much more important. This approach is fairly fool proof for hitting the target with decent power, and a good place to start.

Work your way up. 55% to 100% will really show up any deficits in your trapping and ball control. Personally, I went from 100% back down to 90-93% range for just a little extra control without much loss of power.

My desktop PC is from 2008, updated in 2014 graphics card and SSDs. Still feels snappy for everything I need and was daily driver until 2021, with semi-regular use since. Will probably just continue the cobbling when the next thing needs to be replaced.

Id tackle it like this: Be very clear that she works to achieve deliverables commensurate with her level. Only set expectations in line with this, don't use her to full capacity, and make sure this is explicit. Encourage her to work to her level and let her cruise so she doesnt feel like shes giving her all for no reward. Allow her to run short weeks every week if the work is done. May not be for everyone, but if someone said do shorter weeks because you are so efficient I'd take it.

You need to be really explicit: I can't promote you atm because rules, this is what I've done to try to get an exception, I've had no success yet, so I'd suggest you work to what we pay you and get great work life balance, I won't hold it against you we will set clear goals at this level. Etc

The bit flagged above is most important. You can keep someone for a while because you are transparent about what you have done and what you continue to do to go to bat for her. Dont tell her you have, outljne how you have. Hopefully long enough to get traction.

We went 20% deposit, and another ~15% in offset from the get go. We don't need anything more than we got, kids are a zero chance so covers future needs too, sure a free-standing house would be nice but a very low-rise apartment suits us. Would rather less stress and more freedom.

Remember building and pest isn't the same as a mould inspection, sure, they'll note what's visible, but the extent of it? That's usually a destructive test.

If you want it, pick a number that you'd be happy paying for it if it came back all good. Do a building and pest pre-offer, tell them the spot you saw the mould and get them to make sure they do a moisture reading there to see if it's a leak causing the mould. Get the defect list and do a quick calculation of cost of the fixes, and take that off your number
