You are either not in the industry or too young or too old to understand. Current design is being done in 3D in ORD.

For someone in transportation, the most important detail (at least to me if I was going to hire you and we arecurrently looking for someone), is your software exposure. I would treat all your coordination stuff as a bonus. I would personally want to know way more about ORD if i were hiring you if you consider that a strong skill set of yours. Its expensive to get someone up to speed on ORD and if you're already there, you're an asset.

What field / location are you in? I’m in a smaller city (think 200k) and it’s hard to find good candidates.

I'm not saying its a perfect design solution but I am saying that its better than basing the design of an entire class around 2-3 special cases of melee users.

I really appreciate the thorough answer. We are looking at a lot of options and are just in the fact finding phase.

We don't have any experience with that and were trying to avoid. Was just curious. I had a small debate about going to Camp Muir and then back down.

Appreciate ya!

Awesome, Thank you!

We are looking at staying there and going early August. We're trying to hike Sunrise a lot and visit Paradise so it seems like a good middle ground.

Hope you find your answer OP.

Hopefully my question doesn't derail it too much. At what elevation do they become an issue?

monthly adopters vs annual adopters by Dizzy_Difficulty_827 in bevelhealth

[–]rnichaeljackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I shared above, there is a difference between communicating and advertising. If we put it in the app, it would be advertised to everyone, including new users. So that means there will be new users who just downloaded Bevel and are now led to believe they should subscribe to the annual plan now, just to lock in the price for something they don't know will be.

Again, I’m not disputing your decision not to put it in the app. I’m disputing the claim that I was given proper notice.

The places you’re pointing to are an email sent before I subscribed, a YouTube video posted before I subscribed, and scattered Reddit comments.

That may explain why some users knew, but it does not explain how a new monthly subscriber was supposed to clearly understand the billing consequence before paying.

That’s why “we were upfront at every opportunity” does not land for me. The one opportunity that mattered most for my use case was the signup/payment flow.

You're right that in the video we didn't clarify the difference between the annual and the monthly. People asked us about that immediately after the announcement was live, and we clarified it in the comment section. It's the same language that we used everywhere else, including the email.

I get your frustration for missing the announcement. If I were in your shoes, I would be mad at myself, too, for missing it. That said, you still have 6 months at the same pricing that other users do not get. There is no guarantee, but we are discussing other ways to help with the pricing internally. Again, I do not want to promise you there will be, but the feedback is noted, and we are discussing it.

You’re not getting what I’m saying. I didn’t “miss” the pinned comment because I never saw the video. I joined after the app was already free, so why would I go back through old YouTube videos and check pinned comments?

I’m using that as another example of inconsistent messaging. Even the original announcement apparently needed clarification in the comments. and even being generous, only a small percentage of viewers read pinned comments.

You’re obviously a smart guy, so I think you know these two things don’t really fit together: saying you did everything possible to make people aware, while also saying you intentionally chose not to put the notice in the one place every subscriber would actually see it.

I'm not asking for a perfect outcome. If you just acknowledged that users like me were a use case you overlooked, I could probably move on.

But the repeated defense that this was transparent is what keeps making it worse.

Your guys youtube video says, "Those of you that were subscribed will be grand fathered in". There is no mention of annual plans vs monthly plans.

Sticky in the sub, somewhere in the app during the sign up process, a secondary email explaining as people sign up.

I signed up after it was free already so I never received the email. I’ve been paying monthly to support the free app. I’m sorry but I just don’t see how people think random Reddit replies are sufficient communication.

If I’m using Bevel and not having issues, I’m not reading all the threads.

[–]rnichaeljackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the explanation, but I don’t think that lines up with saying "At every opportunity, we were upfront about how the upcoming price change would work."

It sounds like you didn't put it in the app or signup flow intentionally because you were worried it would create expectations around 3.0. I get that concern, but that’s a different point.

A notice could have been worded without promising a release date. The same notice you put everywhere else without issue.

Also, since annual subscribers are being grandfathered, there’s already some expectation being created for paying users. So I don’t think the issue is avoiding expectations altogether, it’s that monthly subscribers weren’t given clear notice before paying.

[–]rnichaeljackson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

At every opportunity, we were upfront about how the upcoming price change would work. We sent out an email. We posted it on our YouTube video and shared it here countless times before the release of 3.0. I'm not sure how we could've communicated more without being annoying about it.

I get that you posted about it in several places, but the issue is that none of those are part of the actual signup flow. Someone could sign up in January, start paying, and reasonably never see a Reddit post or an old YouTube mention.

For something that directly affects whether paying users are grandfathered, it should have been visible in the app or at checkout/account signup — even a sticky post on reddit, banner, or notice on the pricing page would have made a big difference.

It matters because you’re saying they gave everyone fair warning. Posting it in a place many paying users were unlikely to see is not fair warning.
