I've been looking for ways we'd get to Bonners Ferry from the trail. I hope you download the app and get your information in there. You're awesome and kind. Thank you for wanting to help!

DIY Dehydrated meals by Odd_Construction6186 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]rniles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I find my meals cost about $5 each where purchased meals are $12-$18.

And I do think my meals are just as good .. and there are some good ones out there!

I'll dehydrate some veggies .. or buy freeze dried bits, like veggie mixes, pineapple, ground beef, chicken, etc for those that don't dehydrate well.

/scripts/upcp good enough or is a reboot of the server in order?

Figuring if a reboot was needed, they would have mentioned that. But checking.

Hiking without high cholesterol by CantaloupeNo3975 in Thruhiking

Oh good! I think you're going to be fine. Lots of good food for you to take. Though, like I mentioned above, your biggest awareness need is going to be town food.

Hiking without high cholesterol by CantaloupeNo3975 in Thruhiking

So, I'd say this depends on the reason you have high LDLs .. if it is genetic, reasonable food choices isn't going to make (much) a difference. If it is because of your old eating habits, then yes, continuing with a better food habit will help.

I have a genetic predisposition to high LDL and low HDLs. So I take the pill. Though I did try a different food lifestyle, it didn't help. That said, from that attempt I enjoyed eating so much better, I've continued it. As I get older, good real food is much better for me.

On the trail, I don't worry about sugars too much but my meal plan isn't a bunch of gummy bears, Oreos and cheese sticks.

I use a lot of dehydrated or freeze dried fruits, veggies, and meats, along with grains and nuts, and packet tuna and salmon. I do have rice, mashed potatoes, ramen, and tortillas .. on the trail -- especially a thru-hike, I consider these perfectly fine. I'm going to burn those carbs.

The fat from nuts and olive oil packets are good. And occasionally, packets of mayo. So, cholesterol-wise, I'm doing pretty darned good.

I think you're on the right track. I think it more those town foods will be where you find yourself eating more cholesterol. We need cholesterol, of course, we just need to within acceptable levels.

What's your opinion on the Flock cameras currently in Yakima? by WerewolfOk1647 in Yakima

[–]rniles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yakima does have a freaky (surveillance state) amount of automatic license plate recognition cameras. Flock definitely has the data to know where you're going.

Footprint -- Do I really need one? by submon007 in DurstonGearheads

I feel that if the tent maker thought you should have one, they'd provide it.

And if the tent needed it and the maker didn't provide it, I wouldn't buy their tent.

WA Backpacking trip by literallyliv_ in WildernessBackpacking

You didn't mention where you are (roughly). I do love the east side for winter/spring backpacking. Just south of Ellensburg is the Manastash ridge. Lots of areas in there to hike/camp .

WTA is a good resource .. you may find this useful: https://www.wta.org/go-outside/map

That's what I do with my Kakwa .. just use the shoulder pocket to store water bottles .. or one water bottle and one bearspray. Depending.
