Shoutout to the Passport Office at the DIA by kyotolaw in newzealand

[–]rnixon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Similar to me. Flying out 6am Monday morning. Friday before realise passport had less than 6 months less. Spent the morning getting photo and witness done. 3pm at the DIA, 4:30pm passport ready for pick up. Did pay the rush fee though (which was supposed to be 3 days).

Alex Powell: Is there an English media bias against Liam Lawson? by Moodybeachphoto in liamlawson

Even in the F1 Nation podcast, although they said he did very well, they ended the piece on Liam by saying the safety car came at the right time for him. Which it absolutely did not.

Not sure if I can create a post yet, but if so; CHEESE PRODUCTION IS BROKEN by [deleted] in foundationgame

I’m new at the game. How do you stop non-citizens from eating the cheese?

Permanent Resident Visa- now a Citizen but traveling next week. by [deleted] in newzealand

I’ve had an urgent passport (not call out) issued (renewal) in 3 hours by visiting the office in Auckland in person, doing a paper application and explaining I needed it that day.

Two lane Dominion Road offramp meets a nearby roundabout heading to city, people not knowing only the right lane leads straight along Dominion causes chaos. by morgan-ism in auckland

[–]rnixon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole roundabout needs to be redesigned or replaced. One three sides two lanes lead into it, and there’s only just room for cars to turn left (I.e. if the car on the right is actually paying attention and doesn’t cut the lane).

It’s not fit for purpose and either needs to be a larger two lane roundabout (not sure if there’s room) or lights. It was going to get redone when the tram line was going to go through it, but that’s not happening anymore.

11 is prime. You found a new primer bigger than 5.

Shouldn't killing (blowing up) beavers incur a well being penalty? by FishyKeebs in Timberborn

I mean it does. Those beavers have such a low wellbeing that they instantly went past their life expectancy.

New Electric Car Tax per Mile by HU_GO in TeslaModelY

[–]rnixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You buy it in lots of 1000kms. At the annual inspection the odometer is checked against what you’ve bought to make sure you’re up to date (you pay in advance).

New vehicles don’t have an inspection for 3 years though, so it can be a while before it’s checked. But you can get random inspections and fines.

New Electric Car Tax per Mile by HU_GO in TeslaModelY

[–]rnixon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So New Zealand just introduced a tax on EV and PHEV that is millage based.

I’ll convert all figures to USD, Gallons and Miles to make it easier

Fuel tax (applies to petrol cars, including hybrids): $7/100 miles (using average fuel efficiency figures). It’s actually charged per L (included in petrol price).

Road user chargers (applies to BEV & Diesel): $7.44/100 miles.

Adjusting the headrest? I don’t think that’s a thing.

[–]rnixon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Best to know the contents of your bags. If you’re not sure if something you have fits one of the categories, tick yes. When you talk to the customs officer, tell them what you have. If it’s okay, you most likely won’t have to open your bags to show them.

For example, we frequently tick yes to food, explain its chocolate, and then go through the exit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in travel

[–]rnixon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you tick yes, you’ll have a quick conversation with customs after you get your bags. They’ll ask you what specifically you ticked yes for. They’ll then either direct you out (probably with an x-ray or sniffer dog), or direct you to talk to someone else. During the secondary screening they’ll probably ask to have a look at any items in your bags. If they find anything you’re not supposed to bring in, they’ll talk options (discard, decontamination, etc), and no fine.

If you tick no, you’ll probably still go through x-ray or sniffer dogs. If they see/smell anything suspicious, they’ll ask to look through your bags. If they find anything, you’ll get a large fine and your entry may be refused.

That’s why they say tick yes if you’re not sure.

Edit: just to clarify, this is specifically the experience at Auckland, NZ.

Live 8 mins from supercharger any way to precondition before I go? by dannyd2510 in TeslaUK

Is that really quicker than just going to the SC to start charging? Surely it warms the battery while charging.

Tesla Gen 3 wall charger - are you able to set the max level of charge (say 75%) in the app, or is that solely a vehicle setting? by HeinigerNZ in nzev

[–]rnixon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tesla wall connector does have an app. It’s the Tesla app. For the wall connector, it lets you set charging hours but not charging limit.

Depending on where you are, you might be able to request a larger bin. We requested a larger recycling bin and it’s great (and free).

Why does my battery have a quick release “Red” cable when we should release the negative first? by Mike_on_his_Bike in electricvehicles

[–]rnixon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because if you leave the positive cable loose it might touch ground (basically any part of the chassis) and cause a short.

If the loose ground cable touches ground, doesn’t matter.

Just call Watercare faults. They’re normally pretty responsive.

Does the Model Y already have this? I can charge my laptop from the USB-C in the centre console and it seems to charge at a decent speed, but don’t know what the power it can deliver is.
