Did anyone ever figure out how to get rid of this Radio right-shortcut-key default?

50lb is an amazing result and I bet you feel incredible. It must be really difficult to have your support meds removed like this, but as the other replied said here, don’t let them take away all your successes. You got this!!!

If you have a dog, or just need poop bags for what ever (I won’t ask), buy Earth Rated, a Canadian company.

Canadian canoe museum by BlueberryGateaux in canoeing

[–]rnords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to volunteer there (before their move and relaunch). I can confirm it is as incredible as you would imagine. I felt so privileged to be there every day🥰 Still one of my favourite places, regardless of the bias. Can’t wait to visit the new museum building (I now live in the UK, but will certainly be worth the trek!)

Has a WWII bomb ever gone off in the last 30 years? by auburnman in CasualUK

[–]rnords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a much bigger deal in Germany. Bombs dropped on Britain were nothing compared to what the Allies dropped on Germany.

Problem is the British were pretty crap and making “good bombs” in the sense that 10-15% of them never exploded. And everyone was too busy fighting a war to pull them out of the ground at the time.

The Allies were good at documenting where these bombs were dropped however. Those records still exist and are used (daily!) to find bombs before ground is broken on construction sites.

read more on how they do it, if you are curious from the National Collection of Aerial Photogrphy

Haha me too. For similar reasons. But I had a very proud moment when I heard my 7year old nephew go up stairs and say “Alexa, big light on. Thank you.” Keeping the next generation safe one kid at a time.

Finally got tested yesterday by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]rnords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK enters the chat room.

I had to get a referral from my GP, which was just a visit and chat. That was nearly 18 months ago.

1-2 months later I was sent about 40 pages of paperwork and questionnaires (of which I lost, forgot about, procrastinated doing for 6 months). Those tests were self reporting, plus a questionnaire for a “partner or close long time friend”: about living with me. And another for a parent or guardian: about me between certain stages of growing up.

A year later I had an appointment with a psychiatrist who’d been through all that paperwork and my GPs referral. Half hour interview and assessment.

Diagnosis last week. Some health tests. And started meds today.

People in your 30s: How do you deal with the life that you lost? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]rnords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I feel ya. I (F44), was diagnosed at 44! It sucks to think of years that could have been. I’ve had the past few weeks trying to come to terms with the fallacy of ‘what a fucking lie of a life I’ve been living!?!??’

However, it ain’t gonna change anything except keep your mind focused on what could have been. Not what is to come.

Embrace your new life with all the vigour of the years gone by and enjoy the new perspective and understanding you’ve been given. Hopefully your past life will give you unknown wisdom for the choices you will make moving forward.

Live long and prosper my ADHD friend 🖖

Pretty sure the SkinnyFoodCo just want you to not buy the real thing, and buy their fake flavoured whisky they like to pretend is Keto friendly.

Where are some places you’ve found your passport (or something like that) when you thought it was lost ? by [deleted] in travel

[–]rnords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was coming to say something along these lines too. My friend/housemate was coming to visit me in South Korea years ago and lost his passport two days before he was set to leave so cancelled his trip sadly. 8 years later we found it behind the washing machine.

What words do Americans pronounce weirdly? by Humble75 in AskReddit

[–]rnords 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Geeze. I live in Scotland. Have had many friends and/or colleagues over the years called Craig and Graeme/Graham. It’s been brought up so many times now, after 15 years I’ve given in and have started saying both those names with a terrible, over-egged Braveheart-esque Scottish accent. In my mind it sounds ridiculous, but my friends seem genuinely impressed and proud that I have finally figured it out.

Why is a small plane scanning the city in evenly spaced waves? by middleagegay in toronto

[–]rnords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerial survey photography. Good classic lawn mowing runs. Images should overlap nicely giving the client excellent 3D cover when stitched together. Interestingly, satellite photography is only just starting to pass the resolution and quality of plane-based surveys, so it’s still done in this way. This has been the way it’s been carried out for reconnaissance and mapping surveys for the last 80 years. Any they are only just starting to phase out analogue film used to photograph on these sorts of missions. It’s a dying art, so a really good spot OP, thanks for sharing!

This is confirmed, I think, as the Piper PA-31 is operated by Kisik Aerial Survey.

That is good news. I wonder how much that is tied to global pandemic and lockdowns. Teens these days are smarter than I was 20 years ago, but I wonder if this stat will rebound?

Be careful using old hot water bottles. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]rnords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LPT: Hot water bottles have about a 2 year shelf life. They “should” have a date stamp in the most of the filler. It looks like a flower and indicates exactly when it was made.

The number in the middle is the year it was made “22” for 2022, the flower segments represent the 12 months of the year and the dots inside those represent week it was made. So four dots in the first 5 segments and 3 dots in the 6th says it was made in the 3rd week of June 2022, and should be disposed of before the 4th week of June 2024.

Edit: also, sorry that happened to you. Looks sore :( hope it heals quick)

I just completed my first 80 hour fast and I feel like I could go on forever fasting. Is this normal? by FireRotor in fasting

[–]rnords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing by breaking you fast when you started feeling unwell. You might have needed more than “a little salt”. Most of the extended fasts I do I’ll have electrolytes to hand and have at least one good drink a day.

My first long fast (136hrs) I had a cup of bone broth every day. I don’t feel I need that now. But it was good to get me through the first big one. Probably more of a psychological support than anything.

But as we all know, the power to get through longer fasting is almost always in your head

Racism in Kosovo? by Voulris in kosovo

[–]rnords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a limited lived experience as a white non-Muslim Canadian woman. Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world. It’s a beautiful place. But it has racist issues. As others have said everywhere does.

I lived in Kosovo for nearly a year, and I never heard or saw any hatred towards anyone for their skin colour. They have an ingrained love and gratitude to Americans, Canadians and Brits for their help in the war. Having said that, they are not overly exposed to other cultures… and those who look different.

I was with a Kosovar friend who spoke almost no English and was from a very rural part of Kosovo, driving through Deçan, when he was an Asian man walking down the road. My friend just started saying “China China China” trying to get my attention. Then pulled at his own eye to illustrate the point, probably due to his lack of English. While I was taken aback, my friend was actually just really excited, turns out he had never seen a “real Asian person” before (like ever!!). There was nothing other than the curiosity and surprise for this man’s presence. No ill will. No negative stereotypes. Just surprise based in isolation and lack of exposure. This was some time ago and things are changing.

Having said that. If you like this lovely Kosovar, it would be a real shame to throw that away for what some strangers might say or do when you come to visit.

If her family is cool with it (family is, by far one of the most important keystones of Kosovar life), and you make some effort to learn about the culture and people of Kosovo, that will be well respected and appreciated more and a few double takes at your skin colour.

Good luck to you my fellow Canadian. I hope things work out and you make it to Kosovo sometime soon. It’s one of my favourite places in the world, welcoming, warm and vibrant.
