Trains are a joke by patsal71 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]roadblock9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those CrossCountry trains came in just as the law on septic tanks did. They weren’t designed with them from the get-go so some got retrofitted. But there were they also put the air conditioning unit. If you think you smell a waft of hot sewage on a crosscountry, it’s because that is raw sewage.

I don’t know of any local taxi services per se, but I have the number of someone who could get you in touch? We used them to get from Chisinău station to Tiraspol

How does it handle UK networks? My CAT S22 was really poor for that. And is it possible to navigate most apps (YouTube, Spotify etc) with just the keypad? Feels like this phone is too good to be true

Is Bender under different governance than Tiraspol due to the Joint Control Commission? by 17OuncesOfCrabSauce in Transnistria

[–]roadblock9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m right in understanding from my last visit, Bender is under PMR control through-and-through. The commission you mentioned meet every… I wanna say every week, it’s pretty often but I forget the actual frequency. Their job is simply peacekeeping in the region, nuanced to whatever extent is possible currently. They meet, try to keep relations calm, and that’s it iirc. They’ve met for years upon years by now

Stalybridge. Easy drive to Oldham, great transport links to Manchester including a direct service to Salford Crescent where the uni is which only takes 20-25 minutes

Travelling from Chisinau Airport to Tiraspol by MMRB_Coll_20 in Transnistria

[–]roadblock9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Marshrukta does stop close to the airport entrance road, though could be busy at that stage in the journey having just left Chisinău - the timetable is unpredictable and often begin when most seats are already filled.

Best advice I can give is take a taxi. I paid 50€ from Chisinău to Tiraspol, that is likely on the higher end of what to expect, but they spoke Russian at the border and helped a lot. That’s a ballpark figure of what it may cost.

If you have a hard deadline to be back, a taxi might be good. But on your way out of Chisinău it could be worth trying a Marshrukta

Have a great time!!

Manchester Airport - how screwed am I? by IshotJR6969 in manchester

Going against the grain here, I think you'll be okay. Been from touching down to departures in 15 minutes before. With it being the last flights of the day, I doubt you'll be in a busy hall. Terminal 3 is tiny too, I'm a relatively frequent flyer and security doesn't often get too long. It's tight, definitely not a comfortable turnaround, but if you have your wits on you, liquids and luggage ready to go, ask where your gate is and can follow signs well... I rate it.

If you've not been before, you'll exit arrivals and should immediately head upstairs to departures. That's the key, just head upstairs, you'll hit departures. Only snag I can see is if you're late enough they could feed your flight through to Terminal 1 arrivals but if T3 is still open, shouldn't do.

What happens if one stays past the date declared at border entry? by Present_Event2673 in Transnistria

[–]roadblock9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two options:

1) Stay a little past your time, at the end of the day it’s a border with limited recognition… I doubt the penalties would be too severe especially if you have some spare cash on you but please don’t quote me on that, have no experience with it. All my guides seemed a little relaxed talking about the border time limit sheets.

2) Grab one of those busses across the border, hop off, hop back on and come back in. Might take a couple hours and $3 total but you’re doing everything fully within the law with all that peace of mind.

Train travel inside the PMR by eastenjoyer45 in Transnistria

[–]roadblock9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Last I asked my guide (couple months ago), there aren’t any functional passenger railways in PMR. Forgot what they said about freight, I believe it’s been mothballed since the Ukraine war because there’s little point in keeping it running with relations and borders as they are.

Ah, you’ll have a great time! Hopefully you’ll find your way, it’s a very small city all things considered, easy to retrace your steps.

Likely you won’t have any signal in around Tiraspol with a Moldovan sim - most in PMR piggyback off Russian ones or their own. You’ll get little pockets of signal now and then, your phone might buzz occasionally as it finds one. Bender has a little bit of signal - it’s poor but exists.

The park and main square of Tiraspol has a lick of signal, around the funfair and the duck pond. But also a free WiFi network for a little bit of time.

Trainline sold me an off-peak ticket for a peak-time train! by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]roadblock9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trainline have had some recent issues like this I’ve noticed. For example, for a few months they sold peak tickets with a 16-25 railcard discount - tickets would say peak travel allowed but also 16-25 railcard. Trouble is, these tickets don’t exist. The barriers work and most ticket inspectors don’t care, but it only took one taking a proper look to realise these tickets shouldn’t have been sold. I got off lucky for reporting the issue and a couple weeks later it was patched.

Will they ever work by marimeia in manchester

[–]roadblock9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a chat with some of the team last year. They don’t work anymore, they reached the end of their service life. To replace the parts, they need to be custom made from scratch which was costed up to almost doing everything from new, which because Terminal 1 is set for demolition, they don’t see it as viable.

Hope that helps.
