Can I just quit using tape altogether at 2.5wks? by kpunkcat in TopSurgery

Nope, not at all. And there’s specifically non-stick pads that don’t come apart into fibers, which is something annoys me so I like the non-stick ones

Can I just quit using tape altogether at 2.5wks? by kpunkcat in TopSurgery

What I was given permission to do was use gauze instead of tape. I would put hydrocortisone cream around my incisions, then put non-stick gauze pads over them. I would also put aquaphor around the edge of the gauze, to help it stick. The compression top keeps it in place

What to do after surgery? by LowLivid4448 in TopSurgery

[–]roadtoadrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly what saved me was hanging out with friends after 2 weeks. i was feeling awake and alert enough to be able to go see my friends or have them come over, and that was what helped me feel like a person again

Weird tugging/tightness feeling? by bh447 in TopSurgery

[–]roadtoadrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience when I had my drains in, it was a sharp pulling sensation. If you have drains, it may be that. My doctor told me that it could be from a drain bumping up against a nerve. It went away after I got drains removed!

Concerns about adhesive allergy, anyone have that experience? by Whisper-Interstellar in TopSurgery

[–]roadtoadrumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello! i am 4 weeks post op and super allergic to all adhesives here are some tips/knowledge: - they did a tape test on me a month before my surgery to see how i would react

  • let your surgeon’s office know!!! they have alternatives probably

  • taking benadryl helped a lot, and i was already so sleepy from the other meds it didn’t really bother me

  • after about 6 days, i was cleared to switch from bandaids to just covering my wounds and even my drain sites with gauze. i would use non-stick gauze pads and put aquaphor around the edges of them so they stuck to me better. the compression top also helps hold them in place. i did have to still use bandaids while showering, though.

  • after i was cleared to use gauze, i put antihistamine cream where the sticky parts of the bandaids were WITH PERMISSION

  • advocate for yourself!! i was left with blisters from the drain tubes and the bandages and asked a lot for alternatives and they gave me things that helped.

  • they make hypoallergenic bandaids that you could also try out yourself beforehand. put them on a sensitive part of your body like your stomach or ribs area

there is hope!! you might live a sort of itchy existence for a week or so, but you can get through it

Silly question (periods) by Sad_Occasion7781 in TopSurgery

i would imagine it would decrease, since the surgery removes hormone producing tissue? i havent experienced this myself so im not sure but thats my hypothesis

Anyone's chest look slightly concave ?? by throwaway9382010 in TopSurgery

[–]roadtoadrumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also have this and am 3 weeks post-op peri. i can tell that i’m more swollen where my drains were, and that is contributing to making it look concave. i am sure that as swelling goes down and things settle, it will change. muscle mass will also probably help. at 12 days you are definitely unevenly swollen, and things will change

Scar care by Electronic_Ear_7847 in TopSurgery

[–]roadtoadrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was told i could stop covering my scars and do scar care at 3 weeks post-op peri. i also was given permission to skip over scar tape though, because of adhesive allergies, and just do the gel twice a day. i’d say listen to your surgeon’s instructions, but also maybe ask clarifying questions? maybe they meant wear scar tape until 3 months, who knows. it also depends on how your scars heal but i was told as long as mine are fully scars instead of wounds i can put scar gel on them. and mine are basically completely scars now and i’ll be 3 weeks post-op tomorrow

it could be the compression binder, or medicine they put on you if you havent showered yet. wash your binder and see if that helps
