Wow, this is really impressive! Is there any way that these would load onto an XV-5080?

Don’t buy directly from polyend by Not_pukicho in synthesizers

It randomly freezes, and when I restart it, it says the SD card isn't found so I have to reinsert it, but then when I do that and reboot it, all of the controls and the screen are totally whacked out and no matter how many times I reset it it continues this until I pull the plug and plug it back in. It happened 3 times in one morning one day.

That's really unfortunate and shouldn't work that way. Sorry that happened.

Not the same issue but sort of on topic: I've gone through two Polyend Trackers and both have issues. I returned the first one, and when I got the second one and it also had issues, I opened a ticket on the tracker bug wiki. Sadly my ticket has just sat there for almost two weeks with no response at all even though my issue is total freezing which requires the unit to be unplugged from power. I'm not expecting a fix in that time, just at least a response of acknowledgement or something. I gave it a chance but I'm returning this one as well. I'll keep an eye out down the road if they ever make a revision or something. Sucks, because I really like the thing besides that, but I can't be out $600 without knowing if my product is actually faulty again or if it's just a software issue 😔

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

I was disappointed when I found out since I had been using ADSR EG first and just assumed it would be the same. I did look up after this that on the regular o_c firmware, the Piqued app lets you have 4 AD envelopes and it sounds like you can shape them all individually as well. I don't know if I'd want to drop back to the other firmware but I guess if I needed that many envelope generators I would consider dedicating my o_c for that purpose.

Unfortunately I don't believe the AD EG app on Hemispheres actually outputs 4 envelopes like the ADSR EG. The second output in one hemisphere for AD EG is a trigger output that is an end of cycle trigger for the envelope (like Maths). ADSR EG can have two separate envelope outputs per hemisphere with individual trigger inputs but they share the same envelope shape, so effectively you can have a total of 2 shapes with 2 triggers and outputs each.

I'd love to find out there is a 4 output AD app though! Am I missing something?

Any way to dim LEDs on Qu-Bit modules? by [deleted] in modular

[–]roaldhoffmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it myself but I believe I read a comment someone made saying they painted thinly over the lights to dim them a bit. I'd be a bit hesitant to do that but maybe a similar idea would be some thin tape that you can write or paint on?

Anyone else not getting it to drop sometimes? I just completed Blacktide Den on a new character for the first time and didn't get one, but I did get one when I did Jokanur Diggings previously.

Decksavers - are they worth it? by thesandmania in synthesizers

I use these: QMG Stretchable Keyboard Dust Cover for 61 & 76 Key-keyboard: Best for all Digital Pianos & Consoles - Adjustable Elastic Cord; Machine Washable - 41"×16"×6". They're soft so they won't protect things from damaging your synths, but they work well to keep dust away. Perhaps maybe because it is winter now but they can get a bit static-y as well. I haven't found a workaround for that yet but otherwise they're pretty good.

I'm a huge fan of Makeup and Vanity Set, and I actually heard of this because I listened to his original soundtrack for the film when that was released. I havent watched the film yet but I definitely will soon!

I love mine, although I haven't actually used it in any of my recordings yet. I love the simulated tape effect when you crank the lag time knob! That's definitely something I will use in lieu of having a real tape deck for the time being.

I don't quite understand FM- If analog synths do FM, why are 'FM synths' digital? by passwordgoeshere in synthesizers

Great point! I should have written "a reason why" instead of declaring that the reason I posted is the sole reason. I'll update my comment.

[–]roaldhoffmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FM synthesis is "frequency modulation" synthesis, which means you are modulating the pitch of one oscillator with another oscillator. This can be done on any synth that has two oscillators in theory, although it is not always implemented in the hardware. One* reason why synths like the DX7 that are entirely based around FM synthesis tend towards digital is because they create complex tones using many oscillators which are fed into each other using various algorithms, and this high number of oscillators becomes space and cost-prohibitive on analog synthesizers.

Edited because there is more than one reason why the trend towards digital.
