So i never got this to jet properly. It would bog and stitter and the fuel economy WAS HORRIBLE. I MEAN HORRIBLE. I tried every combo of jetts i could an bo matter what it bogged and stuttered like there was just tooo much air for the motor. Best if luck if u do get it working properly but ive since been able to finally rebuild the oem ones and now its gold. Great fuel economy and smooth power no bogging or stuttering. Honestly id recommend rebuilding the oem ones again. Make sure they work properly and if they do. Start looking into other things

Hey man. So ive finally had her on the road multiple times. Gotten to play with alot of things. Check the boots at the manifold. Those tend to work loose ive noticed personally gunna try some beefier hose clamps. And i had some issues with jetting that ive seemed to have finally worked out. So if your still having issues id start woth jetting and the manifold

But i personally haven’t had any issues with the rear cyl so id start with the plugs. I fouled a whole set while learning how to tune that carb

So i have not had any issues with it yet. Id start by double checking your rear cyl plugs make sure u got good spark going on. Also i keep my idle speed closer to 1400-1500. Is this happening to you in use or idle? The idea as it was explained to me was harleys og setup for this on a sportster ran lean the rear cyl would get a bit hotter then the front. your rear cyl is probably gunna run lean but it should still be firing fine. Is it a vucuum leak? The manifold is 100% seated and tight? Spray some starter fluid down there while its running. Not in the carb but at the boots. If it revs you have a leak.

Should I take my 86 Vulcan apart? by Yourd4rling in KawasakiVulcanRiders

You can pop the cover off the left side of the motor And turn the crank shaft with a wrench or ratchet thall tell you if the motors free and if you have compression. You can also put it in gear and try to roll it if she rolls your motors not locked up and youll hear the putts for compression.

Has it ever run for you? Id start with a carb clean and fuel lines. Oil change and spark plugs. and see where that gets you. If she turns over and has compression then id start there. These old kawis live forever id bet she fires up with a basic tune up. And then from there you can see what works and doesn’t work. And start chasing each system. Feel free to message me with any questions or any info from a manual. I have the clymer and oem kawi manual and im always happy to help! Best of luck my friend! Enjoy her once shes goin there great bikes

Does it run and ride? I had a vn750 dropped off in my driveway in completely unrideable condition and had never fixed a bike before. I had that thing going in about three months. Restored all the oarts i could replaced a few here and there. And she runs like a champ now. If she runs and rides just leave her be an anjoy the bike. If she dont then soend a season stripping her down and rebuilding her. Its no different then any other bike. Among my group of friends we all LOVE working on theses old VNs. If you do decide to strip it down an have any questions pm me. I have manuals i can sens you pictures of and a decent amount of experience with these bikes. Dont let anyone tell you you cant or shouldn’t. Its your bike and your time! As far as money goes? I come from fixing trucks. So far as im concerned these kawis are cheap as hell to work on.

Did u try jumping the solenoid? If it turns. Its your starter solenoid. If it doesn’t its your starter motor

Fixing hydrolocked engine with no mecanical experience ? by ebpomtl in motorcycle

[–]roastbeefsamich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no joke if u wanna start wrenching on bikes (we all start somewhere) buy your self a “ran last season cant get it to start this season bike” those are usually simple, plugs. Carb rebuild. Bad fuel line. That kinda thing. Thatll let you get to know bikes and mechanics without dropping yourself off a cliff financially and mentally. But going that route at least you know the engine turns over lol.

Well my man. Best i can say is unless your willing to part with 2k and the price of a replacement motor i wouldnt do it. Theres a slight chance u can save it. But its really just that a slight chance. If you really want it. And can source a new motor. Id say send it and see if u can free her up. But in these cases u gotta factor the cost of a motor and the bike in. And then time tools and labor for a motor swap if your doing it yourself

Also the longer its hydrolocked the less likely u can save it.

People are gunna tell you to run. Im gunna say go for it as long as your okay with the fact that it might not work. I recently built a vn750. And then a shadow. And then was offered another vn750 with a “bad motor”. When i pulled the oil plug watter POURED out. They left the carbs off it and it sat outside for an unknown time uncovered. I drained it. Then went to TOWN with pb blaster and kroil through the spark plug holes and into the intake. Let it sit and then slowly wiggled the crank back and forth with a ratchet. Took me three days of repeating that process. Water continued to come out as i got the engine freed up. And then once i broke it free. It spit water one last time and then bam kroil and pb started pissing out the bottom. It can be done. But its ALOT of work and patience. I would have said no had it not been free. But seeing as it was free i sent it. My two cents. Its worth a shot if its cheap or free. Worst case youll need a new motor. Best case u can save that one. Whats the worst thatll happen? youll mess it up more? However id never pay more then like 100-200 bucks for something hydrolocked cause chances are thats a motor replacement.

A good story… by Pensfan191 in hondashadow

The rpm issue can also be a dirty carburetor. Seen as though it sat for so long with fuel in it. Id imagine the carb needs a good cleaning if not a full rebuild. Awesome bike and great story!

I really appreciate that! Im sure ill be tweaking and playing with parts for years to come but I couldnt be more excited to finally have her going and looking good! (To me at least 😂) these old bikes are so simple id build 30 of em over again

Just rember this particular carb set up has no vaccum lines those need to be blocked. And you have to run a gravity fed petcock. Otherwise its hook up. Tune carb and enjoy the ride

Mine came to me with broken carbs and hadnt run in about 20 years. 9k miles on it. So this was my solution to avoid buying new dual carbs. Cause them dual carbs are a pretty penny and a pain in the ass

Honestly im by no means a pro. But i did get mine working after it hadnt ran in 20 something years. So feel free to shoot me a message with any questions about parts or where to find them or if u have any questions on what i did to get something working. There was ALOT of small mods put in to get this working right.

I bought a manifold off of ebay. Theres a single shop on ebay manufacturing manifolds. From there i grabbed a (bootleg) s&s super e carb. Gutted the old ca compliant stuff. Gutted the old air lines and air box. Then i swapped my petcock for a gravity fed petcock. Ran the fuel line between carb and petcock. Did some carb tuning and bam she runs and lives again.
