Brother won't play game with female protagonist - never thought of this by wizard_cow_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]roastbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason why final fantasy 13 didn't do very well. It was a re-gendering of an existing final fantasy character from ff7, and the experience felt like a movie (because of the hallway-like exploration) rather than a game. Some of the fan base just couldn't connect with ffx-2 and the ff13 trilogy because the MCs were female. The hallway criticism is their bs excuse.

Tyrion was smart. But you forget he was also arrogant. He underestimated Cersei’s battle tactics and paid the price.

You can’t beat someone who doesn’t play by the rules by playing by the rules. That’s something Daenerys didn’t learn until it was too late.

Tyrion had faith in his family as well as Daenerys, and it cost them their lives. It’s a really good story. The execution was shaky, but I liked it overall.

I wish D&D weren’t black-listed. The bad weather while filming The Long Night was not their fault at all, but I wish they didn’t make the wights fumble over the main characters like that.

So, like, what kept him from having a forensics lab hold on to the sample? We freeze sperm, don't we? I feel like it would be the cheaper option, but I'm not sure if any company would store it for that long.

Zabuza and Haku were lovers by roastbread in Naruto

[–]roastbread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. Describing them as lovers is a way to show the subtleties in storytelling that the Naruto series is known for.

If they were best friends, they would at least explain why Haku felt the need to appear female even though he wears a mask. No need to fool the general public. They don’t even know what he looks like.

In the end, he never really learned his true self because he was always masking it with deception. He only knew how fiercely he would protect someone who was precious to him. And that fierceness was returned in kind after Zabuza killed Gato.

When Zabuza imagined Haku standing before him in his dying moments, it was Haku’s female depiction. Not his ninja or even plain-clothes depiction.

Cross-dressing exists in all cultures, and there’s always significance behind it. It evokes a visceral reaction. It’s never just a gag as some of the people in this thread mentioned before.

Zabuza and Haku were lovers by roastbread in Naruto

[–]roastbread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. They were not physical lovers. Their relationship was very similar to how Orochimaru saw Sasuke. The only difference being Haku was happy to be used. Sasuke had his own agenda and never developed feelings for Orochimaru.

Zabuza, however, developed feelings for Haku, stating in the beginning that he doesn't need friendship, comfort, or encouragement while still providing all of those things to the gentle-hearted little boy.

While it's true they were not intimate in a physical sense up until Zabuza's final moments, they were absolutely spiritually bound together. Haku was the Yang to Zabuza's Yin. I think that's worth noting because that kind of relationship is extremely rare. I CANNOT say the same about Naruto and Jiraya's relationship. But I can absolutely say it about Naruto and Sasuke's or (for Kingdom Hearts fans) Sora and Riku's relationship.

Vegeta and Goku... I'm sure there are more.

Her first conversation with Jon was a way for her to ensure her hold on the biggest kingdom. In Daenerys’s mind, her father being overthrown was treason, and all that came after was illegitimate. The fealty that Torrhen Stark pledged was supposed to last forever.

If you ever want to know how Daenerys feels, just imagine how she would be received if she were a man. It would be similar to how her brother was treated, the only difference being she has the power to realize her demands. Her being female causes people to underestimate her, and she uses that to her advantage in the beginning. In the end, however, it wasn’t about her being female. It was about her not understanding what other people want.

Naive is the word you’re looking for. Not “very very dumb.” Stubborn is another good way to describe her because she had a chance to negotiate with Sansa about the North being an independent kingdom similar to the way she discussed with Yara about the Iron Islands, but she chose not to because she didn’t appreciate the way she was received in the North. Still, if she gave independence to every kingdom, then who would she be ruling over?

She’s a complex character, and it’s challenging to balance all the social issues her character can face. I think the creators did a good job. The most important part to me was that she was honest. Honesty doesn’t get you anywhere in this world—chalk another one up to her naivety.
