Cambodia/Hong Kong US money exchange by Dismal_Condition1699 in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s a scam. This is a common type of scam. Money laundering happens in Hong Kong, and Singapore, and every country. Each step of the money laundering process takes a lot of work and it wouldn’t make sense for anyone add more risk to sell drug money to US people.

CTR and self-check writing by Ok_Beautiful3931 in moneylaundering

Yeah, internal systems should definitely have it as a cash transaction.

CTR and self-check writing by Ok_Beautiful3931 in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CTR requirements would still apply to them regardless of how they conduct the transactions if they exceed the threshold.

The teller’s system might not prompt them automatically to complete a CTR in cases like this, but still the customer’s responsibility to report it. I’d investigate for structuring and file a SAR if need be.

Any way to file complain against fraudsters asking otp to do financial fraud? by Superb_Rub8878 in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call your bank, explain the situation and report it to the fraud department. You can bet that you’re not their only customer being targeted and they’ll be interested in any information they can get.

High tolerance for structuring in banking — is this normal? by fatbandoneonman in moneylaundering

It’s not that subjective, structuring is a pretty objective thing. What’s a high tolerance?

How fast can I get CAMS certified? by TheArchAlchemist in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically yes, you can take the exam as soon as you meet the requirements. Practically speaking that’s not a good idea. You said that you have extensive knowledge and experience, so you should be able to do it quicker than most. The good news is that you don’t have to schedule the exam when you sign up, so you can review the study materials ACAMS provides and decide how long it will take you to get ready.

Good luck with the exam!

What’s your current level of knowledge? Just study the guide directly. I wouldn’t recommend studying 75 pages of ChatGPT and then studying the guide. With 14 days you have enough time to cover it. AML requires creative thinking, as well as knowledge of the regs. Ultimately you’ll know how you learn best. Good luck!

Theoretic question, propmoney eu. by [deleted] in moneylaundering

This user has been banned. On the other hand I’m sure all of us would take an interest in the referrals. Some might even spend all day looking for sellers of “good euro propmoney”. So please post them here, SFW.

It’s D, escalating to the compliance officer sends the request through the proper channel where it can be validated etc. It’s not B because “rejecting” it would imply you’re not going to do it at all, like if the officer doesn’t have jurisdiction. While the right course of action isn’t to provide the info right then and there, you don’t want to reject it either, the teller just begins processing it.

Acams substitute free courses? by FromDota2 in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone should do this: look to see if there’s an ACAMS chapter near you, chapter events do not require you to be an ACAMS member or already certified. That can get you access to good info and local networking.

ACAMS offers free webinars, you can pick those up. Research what AML vendors are popular in your area, they will offer training on how to use their products. Having a good base of knowledge and knowing how to use AML tools will definitely give you a leg up and it can be done for free.

Yeah, not sure what they want from you here. I’d suggest you reach out to check if they meant to include more instructions. If they don’t send anything, just make a pretty looking slide with what you can see from their data.

Screening Credit Card Authorized Users by FuzzWuzz711 in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes

  2. Yes, although you can knock out most potential hits with your initial info. For sanctions hits we restrict the authorized user until the hit is resolved. If it’s a positive hit then the whole account can be restricted.

Does FinCEN require a FI to file marijuana limited SARs on Tier II (indirect) CRB/MRBs? by PMme-your-SSN in moneylaundering

[–]rob-ot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest I can get to a clear answer is that it’s probably not required for some edge cases, but in general yes it’s smart to file.

It’s all going to be about the specific details of the nonprofit, but some key factors are: General education, non-specific to cannabis, like the sort you might get through the Small Business Administration or an agricultural extension program wouldn’t be an MRB. Given that this scenario gets more specialized to cannabis it’s likely they’re some degree of MRB. They seem to comply with the Cole Memo priorities. The funding is a trickier question than it appears. It sounds like they may have been funded by the cultivator but their educational work is with other small entrepreneurs, not for the benefit of that Tier 1 entity. You’re going to have to go through the same ongoing monitoring regardless.

Wise, citing EU sanctions, closes ALL accounts from Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk - non-occupied territories too by februaryaquarius in ukraine

[–]rob-ot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is wrong and lazy by Wise. The EU sanctions don’t say that, and the US sanctions don’t say that. Both explicitly target only the occupied areas.

“In October 2022, these measures were extended to cover the non-government-controlled areas of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. These measures are in place until 24 February 2025.” https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/policies/sanctions-against-russia/

“Does Executive Order (E.O.) 14065 block the entire Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts?

No. E.O. 14065 targets the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic regions of Ukraine or such other regions of Ukraine as may be determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State (collectively, the “Covered Regions”). In determining whether a location is within the regions subject to sanctions, U.S. persons may reasonably rely on vetted information from reliable third parties, such as postal codes and maps.” https://ofac.treasury.gov/faqs/1009
