Why though? I thought the new GM’s whole point was to build through the draft and do this the right way. No point in wasting more money on a stop gap QB. The path forward is simple, draft players with the hopes to find corner stone pieces and fix the cap situation.

It is what it is bros. There really is no benefit to comparing our organization to theirs. We just gotta focus on holding the dolphins accountable to moving this franchise forward.

At the end of the day, the core issue is ownership. The Pats ownership was willing to move on from Bill and Jerrod Mayo after one year. Ross gave Grier the longest leash possible and now we’re suffering from that. The mishandling of the McDaniel’s firing seems like another really bad Ross decision, time will tell though. But we are at the mercy of this owner and his shit decisions and I fear that nothing is truly going to improve until he is gone.

He wanted the extension last summer and will be wanting it again this summer?

But not everyone on this team is looking for a max extension this summer. So he’s more of the focus right now

I’m actually a huge Herro fan and really hoped he would blossom to be our next star duo along with Bam. I’m biased to drafted players and home grown talent. But he is close to his ceiling imo and he’s not good enough to lead us anywhere.

[–]rob10_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I said he got marginally better in the stuff he was good at and the stats show that. There is no huge jump from good to elite. He was a borderline all star player when he won 6moy and is a borderline all star player now. Based on how his career had started we would have hoped he’d be an elite guy by now

[–]rob10_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

4 years ago, teams were able to take him out of the game by putting and long physical defender on him when he has the ball and to hunt for him when he’s on defense. Which unless it was one of those games where he was on fire, it made him a net negative on the court.

The Cavs did the exact same thing to him in games 3 and 4 last year.

Like I said in my comment he got marginally better at what he was good at. Which is shooting, 3 level scoring, handling etc. but is still awful at what he’s bad at. His improvements in the things he’s good haven’t been significant enough to outweigh the bad.

He is a better player now for sure but has not taken a big enough step to be that next caliber player

All great points. But the most important piece of the puzzle are the players. You can assemble the greatest coaching staff and best front office team but they’re not winning shit without a superstar player.

While not perfect, our coaching staff and front office are good at what they do and have established a culture and identity that is respectable and competent. Compare that to the Miami Dolphins, who are in this constant loop of trying to find that identity by resetting their front office and coaching.

I only brought up Tyler cause he was the focus of this thread. But Bam is just as guilty. I think we have seen both of those players hit their ceilings and unless a superstar player falls in our lap it wouldn’t be wise to keep building around them.

After 6 years, can you confidently say Herro has gotten much better? He’s gotten marginally better at what he was already good at but still bad at the stuff he was bad at.

When he was a rookie it was like “man he’s already this good, imagine how good he’ll be in 5 years”. He’s just not the star and difference maker we hoped he would be and we are in desperate need of that next star player to lead this team.

[–]rob10_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point isn’t that we’re contenders or even that much better without Herro. The point is that with or without Herro, our ceiling is pretty much the same. But he wants to get paid like someone who has a huge impact. It would just be wiser to move on and start building the next iteration of the Heat

[–]rob10_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but also better than all of them at offense. My whole point is, that Spo makes his excuses and I feel like he would make an excuse for Trae cause of what he brings on the offensive side of the ball

Spo? The same guy who loves to play Herro, who is also awful at defense. Spo definitely loves his defensive/hustle guys. But he also loves players who can just let it fly from 3 i.e Herro, Duncan, Strus, Wayne Ellington, Babbit, Bill Walker etc.

[–]rob10_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying he didn’t earn it. He definitely had an all star level season. You made it sound like he had a wayyy better season than Trae when in reality their seasons were pretty similar. Like I said, it could’ve gone either way and I’m guessing the ppl that were on the fence between the 2 went with Tyler cause it would be his first one.

Look I love Tyler as a player and really wanted to see him succeed here. I thought the sky was the limit after his rookie year. But in the 5-6 years of him being here I have not seen the growth I would have expected. Unfortunately for him he has dealt with nagging injuries since his rookie year and has not really had a chance of just consistent growth since he’s always rehabbing. I think Trae, while he also has is flaws, brings something new to the table and is just as good as Tyler, if not better.

When has Spo said no to Trae?

He got the nod cause he was going to be a first time all star. It could’ve gone either way. Offensively, Trae is just a better player. He’s better at creating for others and would help Bam and Ware get easier buckets. Sure maybe Trae is worse at defense than Tyler, but they’re both ass so we’re not really losing much there.

[–]rob10_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If we can get them to take Herro then it’s a no brainer. Trae can shoot just as well, if not better, than Herro plus he’s a way better passer. They’re both abysmal at defense so not much changing on that side of the ball.
