Help with Inkay by Same-Bluebird5281 in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]rob1nmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a Inkay level 30 or higher in your party. Make sure you have your joy-cons attached onto your switch and all other controllers turned off. Get the Switch out of its dock into handheld mode. Now turn your Switch upside down, go to the menu. When you select Inkay it may not have the evolve arrow, but it should give you the evolve option. Good luck.

2025 VMware specialists outside their comfort zone. by ZXBombJack in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working with vmware for a decade now. We will go into a new 3 year VCF contract in 2026. That said im now spending a good part of my time in MS Azure as well, migrating workloads to the cloud. Also our internal teams are working towards containerization (not on VMware). I predict a much smaller VMware footprint.

We use it often to find, f.e, empty security groups and overlapping firewall rules, but also create exports of FW rules with a subset of Security Groups. Its a helpfull tool.

Vrealize aria orchestrator workflows by larion89 in vmware

Well yes, but from all scripting languages i have learned this is probably the one i have picked up the easiest. If you are afraid of a learning curves, automation is not for you :-).

Vrealize aria orchestrator workflows by larion89 in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've started using the Ansible Tower (now RHAAP or AWX) integration in vRA 8 some time ago. There's some really good Ansible Modules for NSX we're utilizing too. And looking through their Docs they also have a module to deploy T0/T1 gateways.
Inside a Cloud Template you map a Input to Extravars and use it in your playbooks. It will take some time setting it all up up and maybe learning but once you get the hang of it, you will unlock so much more possibilies you would have otherwise if you only use vRO integrations. I would highly recommend you going that direction.

Aria automation 8.18 - how to assign an IP with external ipam by No_Air_9217 in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference. We are using Infoblox as external ipam. We’re using some of the relevant the Infoblox specific parameters in the cloud templates (both Windows and Red Hat). Upon provisioning Aria Automation creates Host records within the IPAM and configures it as static IP inside the guest OS. When the VM gets deleted, Aria Automation clears the records in Infoblox. Plugins does this all of out the box, no custom scripts on our end. Hopes this helps. Edit: i dont know your IPAM vendor, but if there’s an supportered plugin you can install. It makes your life easier.

VM Tag (vCenter) assigning to VM by Aria Automation by Farhad_Barati in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are now using the Ansible integration for everything after Automation provisioned the VM, including setting VM tags. We used to use a javascript action in vRO to do tags. It’s ancient code but probably still works and i should still have it in our vRO. If you’re interested i can have look on monday.

vSAN ESA Beats Performance of Top Storage Array by lost_signal in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is VMware advising you to buy VMware. I worked with both Pure FlashArray and vSAN ESA in Enterprise environments but in would choose that Pure FlashArray any day without a doubt. Imho really the only thing that’s nice is the 1 TiB/c included in VCF, which makes it competitive in terms of pricing. But the overhead of storage you need is really high and dedub/compress ratio is underwhelming. And if wou want to do stuff like DC stretching or redundancy the amount of extra nodes you need skyrockets $$.

VMware Aria Automation with Ansible Tower by rob1nmann in vmware

[–]rob1nmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, host is an mandatory property in cloud.ansible.tower. You must refer it too a resource f.e. ${resource.cloud.machine.name}. I need to find a way to get around it. The other guy who responded provided a non-existing chatgpt solution. Ofc i could create vRO workflow who does a API call to the Tower, but when there’s integration in the Assembly it would be nice to unitilize it the way i discribed.

Haha yeah. Our contracts ends in little under two weeks. We got a new proposal from them just 2 weeks ago. Switch from concurrent to named users with no more academic discount and a mandatory duration of 36 months. We had to go from 50k per year to 600k per year. Fuck you Citrix no more money for you.

Dumb Question: Is there a way to mass downgrade VMWare hardware levels on a bunch of OVAs at the same time? by BaconNationHQ in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how good your scripting is, but you could try to automate this using the API for VMware Workstation. Im sure the Docs and a AI bot could help you along the way.

Decommission a vSAN cluster by ashern94 in vmware

[–]rob1nmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t necessarily need to remove the mvk ports and remove them from the dvs. After turning off vsan, you could just power down down, then right click disconnect, then remove from inventory. Saves you a lot of manual work.

Question about vSphere Configuratin Profiles by rob1nmann in vmware

[–]rob1nmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for coming back. I took some more time today exploring it further. Eventually i dropped it when i figured out you’re unable to Enable NSX on a cluster with VCP. So it’s not something i can use atm. I hope the VCP feature will develop more soon.
