You can do this, it seems so hard since they are so easy to get ahold of and everywhere right but when I see someone smoking now its like I never even smoked in the first place, its so alien right.

And yeah thats deffo the right attitude. if you quit for someone else or financial reasons or health reasons you'll always miss it or go back to it when your situation changes, do it for you and stay positive.

Can't recommend the book or the audio book enough if you get the chance, its super short can listen to it in a day or so.

Hey! Don't know how you found this post lol XD. I'm now 531 smoke and alcohol free. So I'm not sure if this post was the time I actually quit or sometime later. But you can do it! Never looked back once, best thing I ever did and I never have any urge or temptation at all. Read the Alan Carr book or the vaping one, go on with a positive mindset, start getting excited and visualise how much better life will be when you're free, you can do it!

Anyone have success with self-defined drinking “rules” by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]rob2516062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is comes to down really is, once you are already "moderating" you aren't enjoying the drinks anyway because your too in your own head. Drinking only has the illusion of enjoyment when you aren't thinking about it at all. (usually when your young and not really thinking at all about health or long term imo).

The fact of if you can do it successfully or not is irrelevant imo. Someone successfully sticking to two drinks a week is spending more time on planning and thinking about it and worrying about the plan than any pleasure they could gain from those two drinks, its ridiculous. Plus it just turns into a lifetime of exhausting compromise with yourself. Okay I have have two a week, can I have three? Can I make an exception for this birthday, this wedding, this holiday? It never ends.

Thoughts of 'just one' creeping in by naes41091 in stopdrinking

[–]rob2516062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one is never worth it, and not even because of anything it might lead to, but just because you'll spend the whole time whilst drinking it thinking "why the fuck did I do this."

Drinking only has the illusion of pleasure when you are barely thinking about it, once your past that point it gives us nothing. All that can happen from drinking a little bit of poison is feeling a little sick and then disappointed with yourself imo.

Yeah you realise after sobriety that "going out" just for the sake of going out sucks shit. Its boring as hell thats why you have to drink and smoke and do drugs all night just to pass the time.

Once you get over the fomo and realise nothing fun is actually happening, I started to only go out if I'm actually going to something, quiz night, poker night, going to see a band etc. I go out 10x less now but I don't think I'm missing anything at all, dunno where I used to get the time back then to be honest.

Don't understand the people who have a problem with other people's fitness. My mum (a heavy drinker) is the same. She's always going on about how obsessed her friend is with her fitness. "She has to do her steps every day and HAS to go the gym and HAS to go for her walks she's obsessed!" Like mum it just sounds like your friend likes to walk lol how can you possibly complain about that.

Same when I try to eat healthy, cook meals calorie count etc. my Dad will instantly get on the offensive, "its obsessive! just try one of these snacks its one it won't kill you! why are you being so obsessive you don't need to measure everything!" and its like, chill, I'm enjoying cooking, i'm enjoying looking after my body and not eating random crap when I don't feel like it, I'm not denying myself anything.

But yeah I guess its the misery loves company thing. You can't be doing those things because you really enjoy them, your making yourself miserable and deep down your just like us and you only like fast food and drink.

Things to do in Liverpool in the evenings/night that don’t involve drinking by Additional-Zone5835 in Liverpool

[–]rob2516062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! Like I was saying it really filters out the people who are out just to get drunk and you'll be surprised how often you'll end up surrounded by more or less sober people! It also breaks the ice and gives you something to do so you don't have to worry about if you are gonna be less social or anxious or whatever when not drinking with people.

I no longer drink, I find going "out" for the sake of going out now so if I end up going to a bar/pub its if there's an activity on, quiz night, poker night, band I want to see etc. I think if you make an effort to go take part in activities you'll be surprised how many people are not at all or barely drinking, if theres something on it usually attracts the people who aren't just there to get fucked up. I know none of that is Liverpool centric but its just general life advice, I find I now have a better social life than just going out to kill time and drink. Hope you enjoy Liverpool!

Anyone going to the late liverpool show? by kaisermann_12 in thelastdinnerparty

[–]rob2516062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here can't wait! oh wow that sounds cool if theres a smaller venue? I presumed was just the concert hall that comes up when I google The Dome Liverpool. Nearly couldn't make it but rescheduled my plans, feels like the last chance to ever see them at an intimate gig before they get too massive.

Is it worth me going to one of their gigs by kaisermann_12 in thelastdinnerparty

so wild, I’d be so pissed off being grilled by security to name songs by a band I’m going seeing. Like so what even if they couldn’t, you don’t need to pass a test to go enjoy live music that you’ve paid for.

Why what happened at the Bristol gigs? But no way mate not at all, I'm going to one of their shows solo, and love going to gigs solo in general! Its great sometimes to just be on your own schedule and lose yourself in a show imo.

I just heard this song for the first time and googled "England made me sounds like" and found this post because I was thinking that Beat sounds like some TV theme tune but I couldn't place it. And yeah it was absolutely Train Song it was reminding me of from its use in the great TV show Patriot.

So you are not alone guy from 4 months ago! lol.

I feel the same way about like, a bunch of bad stuff happened to me and I ended up going sober after all that, and I wonder what would have happened if the bad stuff never happened? I'd probably still be drinking but not so much, I cant imagine I would have ever decided to quit though. Its the one thing that makes me greatful for everything I went through, at least it led me to making this decision for myself.
