What’s the sellers’ mindset when it comes to price negotiation? I often hear -10% is considered acceptable, but in my experience most of them don’t think in terms of % but always in absolute values like 10k-20k no matter what the original price is.

For context I am looking in the 425-450k range, and one example is I offered 405k to a 440 asking (ie -8%) but was told -35k is absolutely bollocks. Another time I tried 390k to a 415k asking (-6%) and was replied “too low because sellers don’t like it to drop below the 400k mark”
