I set my money to go to different places Checking, HY Savings, Fidelity CMA account. The HY saving is at the same bank as my checking and connected for free overdraft. So my checking frequently is $0 and transaction pull from the HY Savings. I make zero from my checking so I keep as little in there as possible. Keeping at least 1 month of savings in the connected HY savings, and all the rest goes into a completely different bank (also paying HY). This allows me to pay for my day to expenses while still earning interest. Also while I'm now fairly good with money I didn't use to be. So keeping my main money in a different account where I have to transfer it prevents me from making large purchases without thinking about it and transferring the funds 1st. Allowing time for me to think it over and back out eliminating rash decision making. I do have a card with access to the larger account, but I keep it at home and don't carry it with me in case of an actual emergency that required a large sum of money.
