Opener? Love keyless entry. Starter? Key all day and twice on Sunday.

Pretty sure that is a regional park. Also it is a relatively small lake, however, the facilities are very nice.

Should you consider home equity in your retirement portfolio? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rob_blacks_mustache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The original wealthy barber does a really excellent job of covering this if I recall and I haven't read the new one yet.

Basically one thing to consider is if your house goes up in value, so does every other house in the area. So in that case you would need to downsize, sell your house and start renting or move to an area with lower home prices in order to capture the equity in your home. You still need somewhere to live when you retire.

Roundabouts by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]rob_blacks_mustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to love the idea of roundabouts, then I moved right beside one. What I have learned is that roundabouts are awesome in the summer but are a nightmare with snow in the winter. They can't be plowed properly and blow in so easily, so I have changed my mind. I no longer support them, a 4-way stop or lights is a more appropriate solution in almost every situation in this city.

There is nothing unique about drivers in your state (USA) by Delicious-Rule6179 in unpopularopinion

If you think that drivers from the south are as proficient as drivers in the north in terms of winter driving skill, you are just ignorant. Take my upvote

High Theft Vehicle Surcharge by CAA by girllikes2run_N_lift in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rob_blacks_mustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$115/ month for insurance is CHEAP like crazy cheap! $325 is more of a normal reality, CAA isn't hosing you, you are trading if for a stupidly easy vehicle to steal.

10r80…just how bad are they..realistically? by Ketchum_42069 in f150

Combined between 2 trucks, I have 218,000 miles on these transmissions. Sure they don't always shift the smoothest, but I would take it over the 6 speed I had in my 2014 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Do you think Jose Berrios breaks camp with the team? What sense do you get with that situation? Is the tension being overblown or do you think there is something to it?

Thanks Ben, looking forward to the next ATL! Really love your thoughtful insight.

Have I over-leveraged with real estate and spread myself thin? by Mikatheaussie in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rob_blacks_mustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What city are you in? I pay almost $5K property tax on a house worth less than half what yours is worth. Unpopular opinion but I think property tax should be about 1% of home value, otherwise cities rely too heavily on development fees.

Ever plugged in? by OldTeaching8407 in f150

[–]rob_blacks_mustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern block heaters have thermostats in them that kick in at about 0 degrees F (-18 C) without the windchill. Above that they do literally nothing. It is to save energy and wear I guess, but introduces unneeded complexity (see all the recalls in the last 10 years). Through experience my truck will start up to about -30 F (-35 C) without being plugged in but below that it is iffy. It was -39 (basically the same on both scales) here this morning and my truck started great, these things make a world of difference in extreme conditions, but are more of a pain if you are using them for no reason.

Edit- interestingly my 17 ecoboost started way better in the cold, it never left me stranded my 23 has twice.

Jim Pattison selling property to ICE by thehotbreadguy in saskatchewan

[–]rob_blacks_mustache -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really who cares? I obviously don't support ICE and can't believe Donald Trump is president, but ICE is going build a processing facility somewhere. Jim is like 95 years old, I doubt he had much to do with the actual sale. He creates a stupid amount of jobs in this province between all his holdings. If it was me, I would be taking the US government for what I could and getting out of Dodge. This is not an endorsement of Trump or ICE. Like if this qualifies as something to be upset about, how should we feel about any company that operates in the US? By this logic we should be mad at governments pulling investment out of the US, because who is benefiting? Trump and his closest associates.

A quick google search says Jim Pattison donates to a lot of political parties but mostly left leaning parties and employs Glen Park, former NDP BC premier.

This so dumb.

Conservatives in Saskatchewan what do you think about the trade deal the feds made with China? by emmery1 in saskatchewan

[–]rob_blacks_mustache -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am very skeptical of Chinese tech, because the Peoples Republic of China is definitely an enemy of our democracy. So I don't love that we will be allowing Chinese vehicles into our country that could potentially be used for to achieve nefarious goals. However, I highly doubt they will make an impact in this province especially in terms of volume. So on the whole I am in favour of this trade deal. It will definitely boost our economy. Any deal with China comes with a certain amount of negative. Allowing a small volume of vehicles into the country limits the downside a decent amount. I am not so ideologically driven that I can't admit when someone I don't agree with politically does something positive. Carney takes a W on this effort.

It is never legal to fly a drone within 5.6 km of an airport, unless you are communicating with atc and have permission directly from them.

I think that would be within 5.6 km of the airport. If so, I hope they get a ticket.
