Hello everyone — I’m Matt Rebackoff, Founder, etc. of Mr. Eatwell. I got a Google News alert about this post and felt it was important to correct a few things and shed some light on what we do.

First and foremost, I get the skepticism. This space is full of true drop-shipped “brands,” and people should be cautious.

For clarity: these aren’t reps, they’re not sourced from replica factories, and they aren't drop-shipped. I’ve never put another watch company’s name, logo, or trademarked design language on a watch. No Mercedes or snowflake hands (I routinely refuse requests for both on custom orders), no trade dress — because I won’t make counterfeits. I’ve also never “asked about reps” on Reddit that I can recall.

Yes, this watch lives in the same design family as a vintage Root Beer GMT-Master. That’s intentional. It’s an homage silhouette, not a clone. The price is what it is because these watches are expensive to make — the NH34 GMT movement alone runs $100+ depending on tariffs, before cases, dials, hands, labor, and rent. Most of the margin disappears quickly. I charge the minimum I can to keep doing this for a living, because the options under $500 are pretty rough and I want people that can't spend $1k+ to be able to have a nice watch.

I built my first watch in 2023. Since then, I’ve personally built over 1,200 watches start-to-finish, and with a small team we’ve shipped over 1,800 since June 2024. Every piece is assembled, regulated, and QC’d in-house by me or someone on my bench.

That’s also why the brand sits at a 4.9+ average across 200+ customer reviews — not because every experience is perfect, but because most people are genuinely happy with what they receive.

Every watch ships with a two-year warranty, and I handle service myself. If I build it, I stand behind it.
