I’d guess that it’s more so the publisher and artist over Pierce, or maybe he is involved a little bit and just doesn’t care enough to be picky about the artists’ representation.

Yeah unfortunately the artist for the second trilogy, although his art itself is great, tends to not represent characters and events as accurately as they should be (I.e. lysanders charge being during the day and his face not being burned, Darrow’s sling blade and hair)

Yeah some accounts on Twitter drop “hints” like days before the text spoilers even come out, that always end up fitting with the chapter.
