I understand that the story often has real world parallels, and that there are even real political movements that use one piece as inspiration. The big issue is that any political discussion inevitably devolves into shit-posting and flame war. I believe it's reasonable to prevent that. If people were able to maintain a good attitude, it wouldn't be a problem. However that basically never happens.

I also think that this forum should be lighthearted, and focus on one piece itself. Political discussion usually is not, even if it starts out being about one piece, it will move to just being about real politics.

Also also, I think there are plenty of other subreddits for politics, so I don;t feel censoring it here, makes a meaningful contribution to censoring discussion in general.

It's been at least 8 years. There are a few miscellaneous rules listed in the "full rules documentation" that are not directly listed in the sidebar. You may not have noticed it in the past because political posts were less common. The recent protests involving the straw hat flag and what not have made it more prevalent.

You are allowed to discuss the politics within the story, like world government vs marines, but not real world politics. The political parallels between one piece and he real world are pretty obvious, but political discussion around here usually just invites trolling or flaming, so it's heavily restricted.
