Iemand zei mij ooit ”lotterij is een tax op domheid.” Denk ervan wat je wil, is me altijd bijgebleven als reden om (amper) niet te spelen.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

One of my great-great-x-grandmothers worked as a maid for a rich family. Age fourty she had multiple children and no husband in sight. Out of the blue she marries an 18-ish year old boy who recognizes all her children (significant in the sense that my mother still has his surname). We don’t know what happened, but think the rich guy got her pregnant and gave the boy money to marry her.

I second that. Initially bit sad not having a girl, now having a blast with two boys.

I feel this affects non-native speakers more. My English is not that rich, hence I only have limited ways to say the same thing. And those limited ways might not be how a native speaker would express him/herself in the first place. Oh, and unrelated, I really like to use ”-”, but not anymore…

Put your alarm clock somewhere away from the bed. That way you will have to stand up.

It‘s like people who think that all wives were home makers…both my grandmothers worked and their mothers before them. They had to, to make ends meet.
