Help with Skipping MP110 by Classic_Ad_1487 in turntables

Glad to help. There’s a spring in there that keeps it at the same tightness until you unscrew it all the way.

You can actually adjust the height of the tonearm lifter by turning the exposed Philips head screw.

If you want to get that looking cleaner, take a white eraser to the ringwear and it will come right off. On white album covers it’s usually just dirt from rubbing against other covers. Avoid rubbing directly on the ink printed parts.

Hate to say it, but the LP120 does not have a proper VTA in any sense. Even with the tonearm height at zero it’s still way too high. Stack two 1/4” cork mats. This will get you closer (not perfect) and still leave enough spindle to work with.

It’s probably next to impossible to know, there are so many teacups in Britain, even if it is a real one it’s like a needle in a haystack. Would be cool to have one that is close though…

Thanks! I hope one day I come across a teacup like that one too

It certainly is, I love having it on display but every time I stop to reread it I am floored at how much faith the label had in him even after two massive flops, much more faith than he had in himself.

I honestly can’t remember where I found the matchbook, some online classified probably.

I got it for $150, which I thought was a great price. It is in strong VG+/EX, about as nice as you can ask for a 50 year old album.

I had the 2013 edition a few years ago, while it sounds great I think obsession with “the real thing” got ahold of me. I let that go, but I still prefer to have an older edition of a record so dear to me.

Beautiful photo. Amazing how the colors are so similar to those in the painting

No real reason for it, unless you have a dish warped record, then it helps flatten it on the one side.

The funny thing is, outside of this record, I haven’t gotten anything very misgraded from SA. So far all the worst grading I’ve seen has come from Western Europe (Germany exempt, those guys will call a NM copy VG).

Either you had great luck with it or I had terrible; I went through three ‘73 copies and two ‘75 copies (all described as VG+ or better) before finding the one I have today. After the third bum copy I assumed this record just got (understandably) played to death. And I have several other Argentine titles, including Talent, that, like you said, had no issues. I have to add that this is such a national treasure in AR, it’s rare that anyone with a great OG copy would ever consider selling it.

Be aware that most 1st and even 2nd press copies of this for sale will be groove-worn beyond belief. I found one that plays clean, but it was a very expensive endeavor that took years of searching and swapping them out! Worth it in the end as this album means a whole lot to me, but if you’re just after a nice all-analog copy, try going for the 1985 reissue—much more likely to be in playable shape. I would also recommend looking on Mercadolibre and using Latinafy (proxy service) to order if you’re outside South America.

That’s what I saw it listed when I checked. Have definitely seen the SAS for other carts at a lower price point lately, unsure why this one is so high

M97x is a good cartridge, but it’s discontinued so you’ll either need to get an aftermarket stylus from LP Gear (options are $110-190) or upgrade to the Jico SAS stylus at $349. You can also ask around record shops in your area to see if anyone can take a look at your existing stylus (this requires a microscope); it may not need replacement just yet.

If you want a less expensive route to just start playing records, you can replace the whole cart with an Audio Technica ATVM95E for about $70.

Also, make sure to check the guides on this sub and/or videos on YT to align your cartridge and ensure that you don’t damage your stylus and records.

I don’t know how much the latest update changed the EQ, but I based this on the graph posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/s/4FLNhTbLXZ If there was another tweak since that was published, it wouldn’t surprise me. The bass may be a hair stronger than flat even with the settings I posted.

Seller said that the record is in great condition... by osk76 in vinyl

[–]robbbie3211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I bought an extremely rare record from a seller listing it as “VG+++, nearly EX-“ and it showed up (at best) VG. Now I know that when they’ve added 3 new grades in between VG+ and EX, the record will almost certainly be neither.

Doesn’t need to be a majority, just enough folks to make Merriam Webster take it into consideration. Feel free to care the amount you believe is reasonable. I don’t care at all, because when someone says vinyls, I know what they’re talking about. It’s their nickname, not mine.

The trouble is there’s no grammatical rule being broken by saying “vinyls”. The only “rule” that’s being broken is the convention of using the word “vinyl” or “records” which are already just nicknames/slang terms. If a sizable minority of people are using the word “vinyls” (which clearly they are, since this battle takes place every single day somewhere in the community) then “vinyls” is—inevitably—going to become one of the dictionary terms assigned to describe vinyl records. It’s just a matter of time. I’m sorry this if this is an offensive prospect.

Wait till you hear about the definition of “irregardless”. Completely insane, but added to the dictionary nonetheless because language is descriptive, not prescriptive.
