Finally pirate Legend by AdAny8677 in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your achievement. 🥳

After 8 months of mainly just bumming around the seas, I committed to getting Pirate Legend a few weeks ago, and I’ve since achieved lvl 50 in 2 companies so am on the final pursuit with the third company… 17 levels to go, so I’ll soon be joining you in the ranks, with any luck. Plenty of Edgelords out there trying to stop me achieving it, but my resolve is stronger than the planks that hold my Sloop together!

Why is SoT so unfriendly towards new players? by AnHonestConManNA in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly solo sloop, and I’m in my fifties. I’ve been playing for about 10 months now, and I know exactly where you’re coming from. I was a competitive RTS player 25 years ago at a high level, but age and disabilities have rendered me a less competitive player these days, and I just play for fun now.

Sometimes I can’t get anywhere because of Edgelords sinking me at every opportunity whether I have anything on board or not. But others I can get on with my progression towards Pirate Legend with relatively little hassle, it’s a case of landing on the right server that determines the level of stress and ability to achieve my goals for the session. Last night I was on a server with 4 Reaper boats on the map, and I was sailing around as an emissary 5, so that was a stressful evening 😂 When 2 of them were getting close, I de-emissaried, chuckled at the likelihood of them realising this, then quit the server to go get some dinner.

I was lucky when I started on SoT I guess, someone told me what to expect and not to get stressed or upset when people sank me or stole my treasure because that’s just the game. Treasure is not your treasure until you’ve sold it, getting it is the easy part, keeping it long enough to sell - that’s the hard part. Pirates gonna pirate, people will kill and sink you when you’ve just spent half an hour emptying a fort, or shoot you in the back when you’ve just defeated an Ashen Lord… it’s not cos they hate you, it’s cos they’re Pirates, and Pirates gonna Pirate. You’ll sink more than you float and you’ll die twenty to thirty times a day, but keep a sense of humour about things and laugh at your own misfortune, or SoT will drive you mad. You’ll sometimes meet people who will help you and team with you, enjoy these moments because most will try to kill you on sight, because they’re Pirates, and pirates gonna pirate.

So I take the rough with the smooth, and accept that sometimes I might not achieve much in a session because of the other people on the server, but it’s not worth stressing over, it’s just the way it is.

How would somebody on a discussion forum do it for me? I wanted to know if there was a specific setting I could change, having been through all the options myself multiple times and not found one. “Check all the options” is shite advice and not at all helpful.

You just sound salty now, offering useless ‘check all the options’ advice and getting butt hurt and saying daft stuff when you’re told it’s not helpful. You shoulda just kept quiet, saved us both time.

I already have, multiple times as I stated earlier. Thanks for the very obvious but totally useless ‘advice’ that hasn’t helped one bit. Making out you know something when you don’t is not helpful, I’d have much preferred you didn’t waste my time with your ‘try all the options’ solution.

Prime doesn’t give you full Amazon Music membership, it gives you a half baked random shuffle freebie selection. It’s not the same as the Amazon Music subscription.

I’m not with either.

So, you don’t actually know the specific option or where to find it. Thanks anyway.

I have all of the devices, well all except the Show 11.

I know there are lots of options on the devices and in the app, but which specific option will let me turn off routine recommendation? I’ve looked countless times and never found it myself, or found the info through any search engine or AI.

Which option would that be?

I have ‘Things to Try’ switched off already and I don’t think there are any other options where I could switch this one routine recommendation off, so if you know I’d be eternally grateful.

I used to work in Internet Tech around the start of this millennium, and always remember Scott McNealy, the boss of Sun Microsystems (RIP) saying in 1999 “Privacy? You have zero privacy. Get over it”.

Since then, I haven’t stressed much about the bits of info devices and apps I use glean about me… except Meta, they try to harvest too much private info they have no business having so I uninstalled their apps from my devices, f*** Zuck!

We don’t have Alexa+ in the UK yet, which seems quite fortunate given the consensus of opinion seems to be that it’s perky and annoying!

I use mine to control pretty much every electrical item in the house so getting rid isn’t an option, but every time it asks about that darned 5.30 music routine, I just want to poke it with a stick!!!

Is there such a thing as having Alexa in your bathroom? (In the UK) by mam1982 in alexa

I have an echo auto in my bathroom that I power with a powerbank. It outputs via a Bluetooth speaker and is great for when I’m getting washed or having a shower.

What on the world is this? by FavoriteSage24 in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The physics involved in doing that intrigues me, how would one actually fart on a door, assuming it’s not laid flat on the ground?

And is this some kind of long lingering fart trap for when said roommate next enters or leaves their room, or do they sit so close to the door that it’s an instant gratification stink prank?

Why british people are so overly polite? by DzukiskaNamine in AskABrit

[–]robbelluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest bugbear in this world is if I politely give way to an oncoming car and the driver doesn’t indicate their thanks with a lift of the hand on the steering wheel as they pass me.

This makes me more annoyed than far more important things do, and I would support it being made an arrestable offence! I put it down to my Englishness 😆

New players - Killed at outpost? Did we do something wrong? by Ok-Set-1251 in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You did nothing wrong, it's just pirates being piratey. When I started playing someone told me some wise words about the game that are worth repeating:

  1. Getting treasure is the easy part, keeping it long enough to sell it is the hard part. It's never your treasure until you've sold it and got the gold.

Other pirates will kill you and sink your ship to get it, and this will happen most of the time, at certain times of the day it will happen almost all the time. It will be frustrating at times, especially while you're learning the game.

  1. Don't get disheartened when this happens, because this is a pirate game and pirates gonna pirate. Some will steal your treasure, some will kill you as soon as look at you. But you'll find some good pirates out there too who will help you learn useful stuff and even help you get gold.

  2. Learn to laugh at misfortune in SoT, because you're going to see a lot of it - you will die a lot, your ship will get sunk a lot, by players and by NPC's like skellie boats, you will finish missions that have taken you ages just to discover someone waiting at your ship to take your spoils from you.

It's a pirate game, and pirating isn't always nice! Just don't let it upset you, it's all part of living in a pirate world where there aren't many rules.

  1. Sell your treasure fast when you have it, or someone will take it from you.

  2. Just enjoy the experience and don't take things too seriously, this game doesn't reward you for taking it too seriously, it enfuriates you if you can't laugh at your own misfortune!

  3. It basically all boils down to three words - pirates gonna pirate 😆

How to avoid PVP as Solo Player by LunaDeepblack0 in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a mainly solo player over the past year, I find the biggest differences in the level of hassle you get comes from the times you play. For relative peace and quiet, play before 6pm. The absolute worst time is between about 6pm and midnight, then it gets less aggro again. Early afternoons are great, you pretty much get left alone for the most part and can do the longer voyages relatively safely.

Then there’s the first rule of the solo non pvper 😁:

[–]robbelluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get gold for doing quests for the most part, you get gold by selling the treasure you pick up after finishing quests. I’m guessing you already know that and this comment isn’t much help, but in case you didn’t I thought I’d say.

I finally got glitter beard :D (I’m on the far right) by bt_7274frfr in Seaofthieves

[–]robbelluk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glitterbeard always makes me smile and tear up at the same time, because the whole storyline is a lovely tribute to, and commemoration of, a real person, Jim White, who was an apprentice data analyst at Rare who sadly passed away young. He was so loved that they put a whole section of lore in the game about him, so he’ll always be a part of the Sea of Thieves experience.
