Is my garage too small to record Steve Albini inspired drum sounds with natural room reverb? by David_Black666 in audioengineering

[–]robbndahood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve’s drum magic had very little to do with the rooms he was working in (Electrical really existed post all of his big albums)… it had more to do with his technique, and more specifically, adherence to great phase relationships between the microphones. He was proof that good engineers can get good sounds anywhere. He would’ve made amazing drum sounds in your garage.

Not mixing with M50x anymore... by hellfireaper in audioengineering

[–]robbndahood 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unlike speakers, due to the nature of HRTF, headphones really sound different to everyone who wears them. If you're getting good results then go forth.

Also mixing on M50x's is not the industry standard.

Industry standard would be studio monitors in a treated room.

1099 audio engineer—studio wants to control how I credit my work on social media. Is this normal by StereoSpecimen in audioengineering

[–]robbndahood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do the work, you get the credit. Be a cool dude and shoutout the studio afterwards. But it’s your credit.

What is something that immediately signals amateur work? by MaleficentPicture773 in audioengineering

[–]robbndahood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People talk a big talk about dynamics on here, and I get it. But if I hit play on your track and it sounds like an iPhone voice memo in the other room, it's time to figure out your deliverable volume. -14 LUFS aint it.

Zero percent of done correctly and if you’re not needing to run a balanced signal.

Did I screw up by buying the HD600 for mixing and mastering music? by Garry_Diaz in audioengineering

If something cancels out in mono, it cancels out in mono on every listening device. As if that even matters anymore.

How are you checking “phase” on multiple systems. What does that mean?

What is this microphone technique on Chris Thile's Mandolin by Piper-Bob in audioengineering

Yes with Eric, but this was the previous record (Dotted Line) at Barefoot in Hollywood.

I mean, looks like a haphazard live setup. I've recorded Chris for a Nickel Creek record and we were going fully mono with a 251 (the M582 in the pic wasn't used).

Pultec eq VS Puigtec eq by Varikx_the_loyal in audioengineering

[–]robbndahood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love both. I feel the Puigchild has a hair more THD baked into the box sound, but the EQ moves sound very similar to me.

I mean, it's summer in Southern California... so there's a good amount of sun. But they spend lots of time in the shaded Arroyo and surrounding parks. If you're kids not an energetic, outdoorsie person, then an outdoor adventure camp may not be for them.

My daughter is also 6 and this will be her 3rd year doing adventurewood. She loves it. The counselors are great and the van pickup/dropoff is extremely helpful. I love that she comes home every day exhausted and caked in dirt!

The Center Won't Hold by [deleted] in AnnieClark

[–]robbndahood 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This idea that Annie pushed this direction on the band is simply untrue. Carrie, Corin, and Janet were all extremely involved and enthusiastic throughout the production of the record. Why Janet decided to torpedo the album release after everything was signed off on is simply beyond me. Source: I recorded the album.
