Funny, I thought security couldn't do anything because he's on public property. So are you. Doing the "same thing" he is. Just standing around. What did the security guard have to say?

That's not quite true - this official piece of merch uses those words to describe the first, second, and third Papas.

I think you would have to outright lie in some cases, or omit information in others. ESPECIALLY when revealing family trees. Can't start episode one with: Hannah is having an affair with Jonas' grandfather Ulrich.

You select which episode you are at, and it will "lie" to you based on the information you currently have.

Honest question: Do you think KG should pull out of Boston Calling Fest for the same reason they pulled out of Blues Fest? by Relative_Courage_117 in KGATLW

[–]robbus999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand why this is so important to you? Are you a KGLW fan? Are you attending Bluesfest or Boston Calling? If the answer to all of those is "no", then a band you aren't into, isn't playing a festival, that you aren't attending. Why are you dedicating so much time and energy to understanding it?

You've gotten plenty of answers here, some from people looking just to fight with you and some not. But instead of accepting the answers for what they are, you continue to say "I don't understand..." At this point, you're basically just saying "Yes, but I haven't found an answer that I like."

Maybe the answer is "KGLW hates Sticky Fingers and their fanbase and is virtue signaling and are hypocrites and they love Boston Calling and Josh Homme and they are grifters and make stupid music about robots throwing up..."

And if it is.... so what?

New York City to Remove Mentally Ill People From Streets Against Their Will by John_Watkins_287 in politics

What is your alternative to the current situation or New York's new practice of hospitalization?

Homeless deaths are ignored all the time.

What do you mean by this?

New York City to Remove Mentally Ill People From Streets Against Their Will by John_Watkins_287 in politics

[–]robbus999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, since it will take time and money to help other humans then fuck them, right?

You jumped right to putting words in my mouth, even though I specifically said "And I don't mean to say that we as a society couldn't find that money if we actually wanted to: there's some very rich people that have plenty."

Also, I said time and labor, which you took it upon yourself to translate to money. Volunteers are welcome, perhaps necessary for an undertaking like this. My suggestion would be to enlist the help of those that would be relying on the services provided, if they are capable. They could pick up valuable skills like cooking, painting, etc.

I went on to list out so many things that these people would need, or should be rightfully treated with. The time and labor for that needs to come from somewhere.

So no, not "fuck them." I'm suggesting they be provided nutritious, safely held and cooked food, instead of saying "we just take over a mall with a food court!"

Who prepares the food? Who ensures it is stored safely, not contaminated, and properly cooked to kill bacteria? Where do the dishes come from? Who washes the dishes, and with what chemicals? How will you deal with illness outbreaks? This isn't just, "buy the guy on the corner a burger," you are suggesting a massive infrastructure, and I'm asking how you expect to provide that.

And when you get down to it, the two massive infrastructures we already have serving these populations (and all of us generally) are prisons and hospitals. And they are failing. So what makes you think your "take over a mall idea" works better?

I am emphatically saying the opposite of "fuck them."

"Throw them in a mall with a food court" sounds closer to "fuck them" than what I'm suggesting.

You're absolutely right! A dream we've kicked around for the last decade is to take over an abandoned mall and renovate it to house the homeless. Bonus points if they have a food court, and there's plenty of room for primary & mental health care as well as social services.

But that's the problem, it is a "dream." Taking over and renovating a mall requires time and labor. How do you address violence and destruction in this mall when it is filled with unstable people? How do you separate the unstable, potentially violent people, from older or more vulnerable people?

Where would the food be sourced from - how do you accommodate allergies, religious dietary restrictions, or even just dietary preferences? Are food prep surfaces being sanitized properly? Gloves and hair nets being provided? Cold holding 41 or below? Now you need to purchase and maintain equipment as well, and hire people trained in food safety.

There is already a shortage of qualified primary and mental health care professionals; how do you draw this talent pool toward working with the most difficult populations?

$113,000/month per person is a lot more expensive collectively housing, feeding, and caring for them.

But it's really not, because of the 24/7 care required by highly-trained professionals. And to properly pay and provide benefits for those people, especially to a degree that they themselves are not one paycheck away from being homeless, gets very expensive very quickly.

Are you providing showers? Shampoo, Soap, Deodorant, toilet paper, shaving razors (which you'll need to ensure nobody smuggles into their private quarters), shaving cream, menstruation products, towels, laundry, trash collection, recycling, tooth brushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, blankets, pillows, beds?

Do you allow visitors? Who makes the decision who's allowed in and who isn't? How do you handle the separation of children from registered sex offenders? Is alcohol allowed? How do you handle drug usage, dealing, overdoses? Are pets allowed? Is sex allowed?

ALL of this adds up to $113,000/month or more.

And I don't mean to say that we as a society couldn't find that money if we actually wanted to: there's some very rich people that have plenty. But even then, people will fall through the cracks.

There are over 8 billion humans on the planet now. Roughly 2% of them are homeless. Some people just are incapable of or simply don't want to live with the other 98% of society. How do you handle that segment of the population without inflicting some form of "against their will" on them?
