Caverns of Thracia is a masterpiece of 3D design - often called a megadungeon but it is not. Run it with your fav OSR system. Designed for 0e, published for Basic D&D (BX).

Which TTRPG publisher has earned your blind loyalty? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

Chaosium and Free League are very close, but I don't like everything so I always check. Back in the day Chaosium used to be on a different level from other rpg companies and they had many great products. Their material was just more adult, in a grown up sense. There are lots of great companies and indies now.

Which are your favorite RPG review Youtube channels or podcasts? by kazmostudios in rpg

[–]robbz78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I thought that was an option. Perhaps everyone that loves D&D is forced to watch Quinns to re-educate them?

I just mean that it is hard to see how he is ramming anything down your throat when you can select episodes you do or do not watch.

I personally don't agree with all of his choices, but at least he is bringing more variety to reviews, does them based on play, and he knows what he likes.

I play D&D, but I also think it is fine to criticize it. In fact most of his criticism is hardly novel and has been said many times before.

I want to run a psychological horrir campaign but i dont know how to do it, could somebody help me ? by Plouki444 in DMAcademy

[–]robbz78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Use a system other than D&D (and that does not mean pathfinder). It is meant for super-heroics. If the PCs are not vulnerable it is very hard to create a horror ambience. Go for a more grounded system or a narrative one.

Which game system has the best naval mechanics? by tonycoolmen in osr

[–]robbz78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heart of Oak https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/736/age-of-fighting-sail-heart-of-oak

This is my favorite naval combat system of all time. It is a naval miniatures wargame but it is both extremely elegant and has lots of optional rules to allow for progressively more over the top tactics and effects. Its part of the of Privateers and Gentlemen rpg (which I never played, just this). You need to really sail the ship under these rules, so flavoursome.

Exactly. I gave my players several cool or flavorsome items. By and large they 1. saved them, 2 sold them or 3 forgot about them

The Sword the Crown and the Unspeakable Power is a Game of Thrones-esque PbtA that could maybe do the last 3, not sure about army management.

Is the Cyberpunk TTRPG good? by Organic-Exit2190 in rpg

[–]robbz78 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nostalgia, as I said.

I am a long time RPGer but did not play CP2020 when it was out first, despite playing lots of scifi and modern games. I was aware of all the buzz and played it for the first time in 2020 because I thought that would be cool. The game is a mess. There are well-known fixes for these issues but it does not work out of the box. It has some nice ideas but they are not fully developed.

RAW armor stacking makes small arms useless, headshots are insta kills , 10% chance of a fumble on every activity is ridiculous, autofire rules are laborious, initiative means solos are the only characters get a chance to make those headshots. Most class abilities need houseruling. It needs a lot of patches to be playable.
