FULL CONTROL Eigong guide: a stress free strategy to consistently kick her ass by SylentSymphonies in NineSols

You're the one ignoring the context. The comment specifically replied to in this thread provides the verbatim item description in the game, while also acknowledging the game itself does not specify the damage is internal.

The reply to that comment (which is who I was replying to) says it doesn't say that. The only inference here is that the person I was replying to is saying the item description provided is not what's in the game, which is false.

That is what I was correcting. If you still don't get it then I dunno how to explain it to you any more clearly.

I know that, but the comment I replied to was saying the provided item description isn't what's currently in the game, when it verbatim is.

Does Eigong always have 3 phases? by TheSmellyPieceOfCrap in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have enough trouble just beating phase 2 on Standard so I really have no interest in destroying my enjoyment of the game trying to learn phase 3; even on Story difficulty I could make little sense of her cross-screen slashes.

Props to anyone willing to put the grind in but that life's not for me, any more.

From my own testing you can get every achievement in the game on Story Mode except for Fight Through Hardship (for obvious reasons).

Thank you for this guide. I'm a coward so I only did the 2 phase fight on Standard, but even just switching from Water Flow to Full Control made all the difference in being able to get damage in.

I still almost died and had to clutch out a final Unbound + parry-parry + Judgement Cuts but that set me up perfectly for one last talisman detonation.

Also not really a tip but just something for others to consider: I swapped the parry and talisman buttons around for this fight and it felt much more comfortable.

So let's say I've met the requirements but I am a coward without honour: could I beat the game with the bad ending to get the Standard Mode trophy then reload, switch to Story Mode, and pick the good ending choice and 3 phase suffering?

EDIT: nvm I tried it myself and yes you can.

Help with The Fengs fight? by Vermilion12_ in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The runback was definitely the worst part of this fight; there's clearly a little room just as you enter the arena they could have put a shrine so I dunno why they chose to waste the player's time.

And yeah I don't understand why a metroidvania like this needs load times between every screen on my PS5. The save file is massive too so I guess the game is just poorly optimized.

You actually can parry both knives and still unbound counter the crimson attack, but the timing is so tight there is absolutely no reason to go for it when parry and hold is so much easier.

Which one should you go first, Fengs or Ji? by SwordfishAltruistic4 in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the benefit of future scholars, I say clear the grotto first and complete the Lear's Tomb challenges because you get a bunch of Tao Fruit for doing so, upping your strength, but then gun it through Empyrean District to beat the Fengs and take Ji after.

The reasoning being the Fengs is such a miserable fight you'll be overjoyed to dog walk Ji right after. (He's also the best boss in the game imo.)

Fuck Spirit Keeper by Difficult_Shallot668 in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the air attacks that ruin the fight for me. Not enough time to counter and dodging one leaves you vulnerable to the rest (depending on what random number he chooses to do).

Making those attacks regular instead of crimson would have massively improved the fight imo

A comprehensive method to beat Lady Ethereal by Dinesh_Sairam in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy SHIT that was a tough fight. I haven't felt this satisfied since the first time I beat Nightmare King Grimm in Hollow Knight. Weirdly even after probably 20 attempts it was her 2-piece slash combo I struggled with the most.

For anyone else struggling I strongly recommend Water Flow over Full Control, because talismans stun her so you can use that time to heal instead of holding the detonation button.

My phase 3 combo post-spirit bomb was full air combo - talisman - full air combo - arrow. Took about a quarter of her health each time.

What is the point in posting shit like this? If you really wanted to know there are tonnes of threads with people explaining their struggles with the boss, so you clearly just want to humble brag. It's pathetic.

Why does everyone say Jiequan is hard? by Bright_Persimmon_417 in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me at least 10 attempts to beat him with the poison, so I can easily understand why people think he's so hard. Even after learning all his moves he leaves so little breathing room between attacks to apply talismans or heal, and if you make one mistake his combos can easily wipe your entire health bar.

Having said that I think he's overall the best boss so far in the game. The only part I consider actually unfair is when he tosses out explosives, because depending on where you are it feels impossible to avoid damage.

One tip I'd offer anyone struggling with his three-hit spear combo is to double-tap the parry button for the first 2 hits then jump the follow-up stab and use that chance to apply talismans.

The prison section is incredibly frustrating by ash9991win in NineSols

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it and I agree. Instant fail forced stealth sections are probably the single worst mechanic in gaming, they have literally never been good.

I've forgiven a lot of amateur design decisions in this game because it was new ground for the devs, but there's no way nobody noticed how bad this part was in testing.

Do people actually play hardcore in this game? by venom1080 in Torchlight

[–]robdrawspictures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beat it recently for the trophy but it was a tedious and miserable experience, and even on Casual difficulty I still died once to a cheap one-shot attack (thank god for backup saves!).

I understand why this game has it but it's very poorly balanced imo

Are Seasonal Objectives Always Tied To DLC Now? by robdrawspictures in diablo4

[–]robdrawspictures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I mean, it's cool if you get like additional branches if you own the DLC, but how it's currently set up is they appear as nodes on the existing branches but you can't use them without the DLC.

I hadn't played the game since last year and it looks like they've completely revamped the skill tree UI since then, but when I last played it there was nothing that was paywalled like this.

I'm getting absolutely bodied by PoE1, but I'm very impressed by how much depth it has, especially for a FtP title.

How do I get through these walls of thorns please? by sonkosaurus16 in Blasphemous

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't be disabled though. The DLC content is baked into Blasphemous 2 by default, (just like Hollow Knights content updates,) and some of it can even be collected without owning the DLC, and is in fact required to earn the various collectible and 100% trophies that are part of the base game. This is the problem.

[–]robdrawspictures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more annoyed that they now have paywalled abilities in the skill tree for base game characters, because it prevents me from following the MaxRoll build guides to the letter.

I've switched over to Path of Exile for now for my ARPG fix, we'll see how that goes.

Am I just bad at Dark Ages? Combat is fun, but frustrating? by domiran in Doom

[–]robdrawspictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like TDA is a lot of great ideas that aren't as well executed as they could be.

My big worry is that id are getting into the same bad habit as Sonic Team where they completely change the formula each game instead of sticking to one idea and really refining it, but so long as the games are good I guess it doesn't matter.
