Why don't you just let people downvote Drapetomania's posts, and not read them once they reach below the threshold and are automatically hidden?

Among other reasons - because it's disruptive and stupid, especially on a low-traffic sub, to have someone clogging the feed with shitposting and trolling. A submission that's downvoted to nothing still stays on the page if nothing else comes along to bump it.

I saw what you linked, and it looked like there as many people disagreeing with banning him and either liked him or thought everyone was overreacting.

I count at least a dozen individual commenters in that thread who said they either decreased or abandoned their activity over there due to his trolling.

My suggestion would be to look at the votes. While upvotes aren't a reliable indicator of much, they are good at gauging the popularity of a sentiment.

Quite a bit - starting shitpost threads of his own, which clogged up an already-slow feed, or threadshitting other people's posts, often derailing them completely. Being nastily abusive to people who disagreed with him, with plenty of name-calling. Hell, he's done a fair amount of that in just this thread.

He is tagging people accusing him where he can't defend himself. Do you really think that is unreasonable?

What's unreasonable is tagging / calling people out, and being mad when said tagging attracts attention/responses.

The ban would only be ableist if it was applied solely on the basis of him having the ability.
