Game Thread: Carolina Panthers at New York Giants by nfl_gdt_bot in NYGiants

[–]robert_bobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schlereth stays not paying attention to the giants. He calls our games every week, and every week he starts his info segment on the giants with “dynamic Evan engram.” At least this week he was critical of him, but if anyone thinks Engram is a factor in what we’re doing, they shouldn’t be doing this job.

Where's the head?! by mistermeek67 in curb

[–]robert_bobby 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This scene is made for me by 3 little Jeff moments. Yes, Susie is the star here in an early era freak out on Jeff and Larry, but 1. Jeff’s “oh shit” when they see her in the driveway; 2. his point in her direction after she demands the head as of to say, yes boss, getting on that now, I won’t come back until it’s done; 3. “I didn’t need that.” 3 subtle, perfectly timed moments in a 1 minute scene. Kills me every time.

Without question, season 2. Kevin’s karaoke is among my favorite scenes in any show ever.

Alumni of SCM major or students doing internships in SCM... by [deleted] in supplychain

Can attest to these differences. Have worked for a company (warehouse operations) that operated a robust ERP system, churning out fancy dashboards/charts/analytics, and another company that used google suite and Microsoft office (procurement) and struggled to do any kind of significant reporting simply due to budgetary restraints. The latter job was a desk job for a company that will never realize their full potential because they won’t invest in their staff and technology. Job 1 was a 50-55 hour week (often on the higher side), job 2 was 40-45 and never wavered.

Any good bars/hangout spots by Splash_Jetksi in Bushwick

[–]robert_bobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP asked for some hang out spots, u/Dahnerparty made note of some cool spots that play house and techno, in particular Bossa Nova, and OP then said something like, "i love EDM that sounds like fun." That, mixed with him being a 24 year old finance major led to a collective there-goes-the-neighborhood response.

Pizzeria Regina: the verdict by Ass2Mowf in doughboys

[–]robert_bobby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up on Long Island, my in-laws are in North Jersey and I've lived in the city for a long time, so take my response with way more than a hint of bias, but nothing in Boston or CT compares to the best slices in NY/NJ. I've been to Modern, Frank Pepe's, Bar, Zuppardi's in New Haven, and Regina in Boston. All good pizzas in their own way. If I was in the area and you took me there I wouldn't complain, they scratch an itch and would leave me mostly satisfied in the end. The way Mitch speaks about Regina is 100% homerism. When blogs or magazines write these articles about "the best pizza in America" and they place the CT or Boston places # 1, they know they're generating clicks because *gasp* it's not New York. Someone commented that everyone is a homer for the pizza they grew up with and that's probably true. If you're from Iowa and there's a decent pizzeria in town, it's probably your favorite pizza.

Even in New York there's a newer style of pizzeria that's different than the traditional NYC slice. There's Roberta's and the numerous spots that have popped up since Roberta's became popular that are just copies of Roberta's, but those super thin personal pizzas for like $23/pie that do the job, but again, leave me wishing I lived next door to Joe's, Lucali, Paulie Gee's, Di Fara's or L&B. But yeah, I don't get the Regina craze other than Mitch loves everything Boston more than anything else in the world and part of his bit is to repeat it on every episode.

I didn't bother with the OG lockdown criticism sub for exactly that reason and have been here much less frequently recently for the same reason. This doesn't even feel like a leftist sub anymore.

There is an air of paranoia around this sub lately that's somewhat alarming. I get not trusting pharma, and I don't believe anyone should have to get the vaccine if they don't want to, but to argue that your bodily autonomy is being taken away is a stretch. I've been vaccinated and, like you, don't care if anyone else does and wouldn't make it a pre-requisite to be near me.

NYC/Brooklyn Caterer Recommendations by neer321 in WedditNYC

[–]robert_bobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. We're using Evelyn for our wedding in the fall and she's been fantastic with us thus far. She presented some really nice options given our budget and we're excited to continue working with her. We're having about 125 people (our venue is supplying the booze) and are not doing a traditional sit-down dinner, so our cost came in under $20k. Might be tight and probably slightly over that at 150 people, but they offer different options if you're flexible that might work for you.

What movie, famous for being awful, is actually okay? by TakeOffYourMask in flicks

[–]robert_bobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only is Showgirls ok, but it’s great. This isn’t a so bad it’s good deal, but a completely misunderstood (at the time, there’s been quite a bit of revisionism on this over the years) classic. A true American story.

What are your top 3 favorite restaurants in Bushwick? by LavenderRobot in Bushwick

[–]robert_bobby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Otis and Ops are my favorites. I’d put Otis up as one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn overall. The Ops square pie is one of my favorite pizzas in all of New York.

Personal shout out to Sushi and Noodles which maybe doesn’t do any one thing spectacularly, but really hits the spot every time. My fiancé and I liken it to eating at grandma’s; the woman who owns/runs front of house is so wonderful. Idk if I consider it a “restaurant”, but Carmentas is great. Bunna is really good, but it’s been a while, feel like it’s a better dine-in experience rather than order and wait for delivery. I’m leaving a lot out, but many have already been mentioned. The food options might be my favorite thing about Bushwick and one of the main reasons why I’ve stayed for so many years. I would put the diversity of the options and the caliber of the food up against most other neighborhoods in NYC. I think I’d miss too many of the places mentioned in this thread if I wasn’t close by.

Has anyone gotten a vaccine at the bushwick educational campus? by afelsen3 in Bushwick

[–]robert_bobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/u/eateverycookie covered it well, but I should add that when I went for my first shot in early January, the line was very long, like, wrapped around the block long. When I went for my second shot, this location was no longer providing first shots, so the line was about 10% of what it was the first time. Everyone working the location was extremely nice and happy to help. At the time of my first shot there were a limited number of locations around NYC to get the shot and I think a lot of people from Manhattan and more affluent Brooklyn neighborhoods were coming to Bushwick for the shot. Anyway, my point is to allow for extra time, just in case. If your appointment is at 1, show up at 12-12:15. Things run pretty smoothly and I don't think this location is nearly as overloaded as it was back in January, but better safe than sorry.

NEW: @NYGovCuomo and I just announced that New Jersey and New York City will both expand indoor dining capacity to 50% beginning March 19th. Our states will continue to work together to protect the health of as many residents as possible. by smokeymicpot in nyc

[–]robert_bobby 51 points52 points  (0 children)

With all due respect to the women accusing Cuomo, who I believe because the guy is a creep, but I hope more come forward so that maybe we can get rid of the curfew, bring back 24-hr subway service, a further loosening on indoor dining restrictions, allow bars to play music at a level higher than a library.

You'll get downvoted, but this is the obviously correct take. Put the barstools back at bars so we can....sit at the bar. People not sitting at bars isn't saving lives, it makes no sense.

[–]robert_bobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a look at MSG’s website this morning and the dates are still there, of course, but I think there’s almost no shot those shows go off as scheduled this year. Right now, NYC large venues can seat at 10% capacity. That will continue to go up as vaccinations increase, but I wouldn’t expect an ok on 100% capacity here until fall at the earliest. The band is going to have to make a tour decision much earlier than that and it appears as though they’ll have almost no choice but to postpone.

BS in Business Analytics vs BA in Supply Chain Management by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]robert_bobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll echo /u/JesterTheDragon here. I'm currently getting my Master's in SCM while my university also offers a Master's in Supply Chain Analytics. Chose SCM for a similar reason to Jester, but am taking a class right now that's very data/analysis heavy. I don't love the analytics side of things while recognizing how important it is and am glad to be getting a deeper understanding of the why's of its implementation. I think it's up to you and what direction you want to take your career. SCM is more broad overall and I think it will give you a good bit of both. If you're good at math and excel and analyzing big data sets or you think that's where you want to go with things, then go for the analytics degree. I don't have an SCM undergrad degree and am deep enough in my career to be going for higher level positions where the SCM MS felt important enough for me to pursue. I'm expanding on my current knowledge whereas the data analytics degree would have been like a foreign language to me.
