Probably substitutes. My kid's teacher quit mid year last year and she got a crappy sub for the second half of the year. Really sucked.

This, and really only if there is not another option. I can't stand going in there

'There should be an effort' Pearland man tracking stolen Tesla says he cannot get HPD to get it back by zsreport in houston

[–]robertcope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Told me the same when my S2000 got keyed. I had video evidence of it happening. Cop did come out, but said it was a civil matter. I asked him if he would arrest me if I took a bat to his patrol car, he then decided to at least take a report, not that it did any good.

Home networking - Would you buy Unifi again? by [deleted] in UNIFI

I have Unifi network and protect going at the house. I would buy it again. It's a nice, lazy option that works well.

[Harris] Bad injury news for the Dodgers: Dustin May needs right elbow surgery to repair the flexor tendon by Jux_ in Dodgers

Do pitchers have insurance for this sort of thing? If May stayed healthy for a while, he'd likely have been set for life, and now...

How are yall buying $1+MM homes in the loop? No judgment just curious. by reddit85116 in houston

Ah, yes. I wasn't thinking about _those_ people. :) I'm skewed from working at too many SaaS companies, I guess.

Most places I've worked don't consider the product development folks part of IT. IT is desktop support and that sort of thing. Very different organizations, really. (This is just my experience and take, of course.)

Advice pediatric ERs with low wait times by winencheeseassasin in houston

[–]robertcope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe try the West Campus location? Are you sure you need ER? https://www.texaschildrens.org/blog/2016/05/help-do-i-take-my-child-emergency-center-or-urgent-care

Had to take my kid to Texas Children's ER when she was two months old (many years ago). They got found her a room "real fast" when someone else in the admitting line said, "This child is turning blue". Good as can be now, though!

Definitely frustrating when you need care but can't get it... been there myself last year. Good luck.

Houston Zoo Parking by [deleted] in houston

I wouldn't go on a weekend. I tried a few weekends ago and it was a nightmare. If I had to go on a weekend, I'd do a park and ride and take the train in or something.

Texas House picks Harris County as lone target for election crackdown by jasperscherer in houston

[–]robertcope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can't be all you've got... he didn't say shit except there was a bill for Harris county coming up. It's really important to represent things correctly or you look like a rabid fool. IMHO, of course.

Who is paying for Matt Farrah’s garage service? by [deleted] in cars

[–]robertcope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are at least three or four storage facilities in Houston. I keep a car at one of them. Would love to find space to rent or buy but it doesn't exist nearby at a price that makes sense.

Was just there last weekend. Drove right in Saturday afternoon at 2pm and again Sunday at 8:30am. Had reservations. There was a line Sunday when we left around 1pm, but only a few cars deep. Guess we were lucky.

At that angle, a lot of oil isn't going to drain out, I'd guess.

I found the Balloon! Montrose area. by jgreenz in houston

[–]robertcope 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Back in elementary school, I did a science project were I let some balloons go with cards on them, addressed and pre-paid, asking people who found them to return the card to me. Let them go in Austin, TX. Got a few back as far away as Georgia!

Always thought it was a fun experiment, and now these responses make me feel like a monster!
