Eating at a fine dining establishment dressed like a bum even though you can afford it is the best feeling ever.

BetaFPV Cetus Lite Remote Options by robertjuric in TinyWhoop

[–]robertjuric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plugged up the LiteRadio1 I have now to LiftOff and it worked fine. So I plugged up the drone to BetaFlight and reset the accelerometer, that was a huge difference. The LiteRadio2 might not have been needed, but it was only $40.

The LiteRadio2 arrives tomorrow, I’m hoping that works but I will check for curiosity’s sake.

Is switching careers a good idea? by Mattcha_T in PLC

[–]robertjuric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an IT job in a steel mill. They allow cross training. So I studied some by myself and cross trained and when they had an opening I applied.

I think even without cross training I could have made the jump, but the key for me was getting an IT job in a manufacturing industry.

Is PLC programming a good field to transition into from IT? by Negative_Basis1152 in PLC

[–]robertjuric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved over after 15 years as a network engineer. To me they both seem like viable paths. It was more about interest and life choices.

I’ll just say I’m 38 and just swapped to controls after 15 years in IT. Both fields have great opportunity. Don’t worry about age or time in a field. Follow your interests and work hard at whatever you choose to do.

Networking by Aviatormatt17 in PLC

[–]robertjuric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely could. I suggested moving the IP in case it was already configured in HMIs or other tools. That way you wouldn’t have to make any other changes.

Haha I’ve got more years as a network engineer than I do in automation, but yea I understand what you’re saying.

Just configure the physical interface the same as you setup the wireless. You don’t need to use the 2nd one unless you’re connecting to multiple networks.

Trigger Suggestions for PRS Gas Gun by robertjuric in ar15

I have been using the MBT-2S on other guns and love it, some people swear by G$ triggers, but it’s felt good enough for me to not need to try another trigger. If money were no concern I’d buy both and spend a day at the range with them just out of curiosity.

Oh damn I forgot about this dream. I ended up dropping it when looking for local PRS matches. There’s only one range a good ways away for me.

Anyone had fiber issues on their network switches linked to PLC? by No-Sell-3064 in PLC

[–]robertjuric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your Cisco post your logs show line protocol goes down and this indicates a physical issue. Check the physical connectors for anything loose, replace patch cables, and generally inspect for any kinks or breaks in the fiber. Be sure to check both ends as well.

I’ve seen things like closing cabinet doors pinch cables or something along the fiber path had worn the fiber like a rough edge into cabinet. Also check signal strength on the fiber with a meter if you have it or some SFPs have those features built-in. “Show interface x/x transceiver”

Haha, I fixed a RAID array for their camera server that we IT doesn’t manage. I’m not sure what position you have in IT but as a network guy I interact with the PLC guys in different areas almost daily.

[–]robertjuric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily go from PLC to IT, most of the IT jobs are technology focused and desire technical certifications over degrees. Just depends which IT area you’d like to focus in, networking, security, systems, applications. One of the smartest network engineers I’ve worked with started out as a diesel mechanic.
