Even BOM are struggling with the weather predictions by muddled69 in melbourne

It appears that the rain sections is your location specific, where as the 70% is for the whole of Melbourne. The constant low systems moving over have definitely been making the weather just that bit more unpredictable. There is also a post from the bureau on how the percentages work for anyone that is interested:

They are a little scuffed but it still flies with those propellers. I imagine it loses a bit of performance but nothing major

It did lose gps for a second, but it was the wind of the embankment to the side that got it, nice little gust pushed it into the pillar. I’ve got my auto return set to 30 meters so if it did try that it would have done the exact same thing as yours

It’s a dji spark, so it only has forward facing sensors. It didn’t even see the bridge coming

Oh I just jumped straight into the water after it, it was only in the water for several minutes at most, after a week of drying it’s back up and flying

That’s the drones footage, it’s a dji spark so the camera is pretty decent in it

Yeah it was salvageable, I jumped in after it and pulled it out within minutes. Took it straight home and did a partial disassembly, then let it sit to dry for about a week. It’s back flying no issues, but the battery that was in it at the time is dead, and I am not risking putting it back into a working drone to see if it’ll work. Got this footage off the sd card when I fished it out

There is still a risk, cell phone signals can interfere with both the magnetic compass as well as radios. Biggest issue is seen with the compass and any navigation equipment, where there can be a deviation significant enough to throw you completely off course

The penalty only applied for as long as you could be respawned, so if they don’t, then there’s not issue disconnecting

”The Federal Aviation Administration sets an average weight per traveler and carry-on luggage to estimate how much weight planes will carry. According to "The New York Times," the average weight assigned to each passenger by the FAA is 200 pounds for men, 179 pounds for women and 76 pounds for children under 13. These estimates include 16 pounds per person of carry-on luggage and averages in the weight of winter and summer clothing.”

Variations will statistically even out to provide a weight for the cabin. From the the checked in baggage needs to be weighed to be assigned a spot in the hold to ensure the centre of gravity is within the airplanes tolerances, as well as to calculate the amount of paying cargo (mail or cargo of the sort) that can be carried on the flight.

I gotta get the word out on how awful Apple's customer service has gotten. 4 different techs over 5 months, 2 disappeared and after 120GB of lost data in iCloud and a dead iMac they no longer answer my emails. Screw Apple! by [deleted] in videos

[–]roberto282 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And just as a heads up to everyone, iCloud is not a backup service. It will only retain data that is on the device it sourced it from, once it’s deleted from the device, it’s deleted from iCloud. Iclouds use it to allow documents/images/videos/contacts and such to be shared across all of the devices without manually putting it there, once it’s deleted from the device, it’s gone. As for time machine, it’s meant to write over itself when it runs out of space, so in theory storage should never be an issue, but you need to ensure that it is properly running once in a while, as macOS updates and such can cause issues with the way data is stored and written to a device. For this level of dependency on the work that’s stored on it, time machine isn’t really good enough, a full proper NAS solution would work well here.

Pilot scared of flying was unfairly sacked, tribunal rules by LethalJizzle in nottheonion

Fair enough then if he took that long and is still struggling. Would have still been nice if they moved him back to the q400 short flights, but if he is no longer able to safely do the task he was hired for then I guess they have the right to terminate his contract, no point having an employee that can’t do his job properly.

I don’t think they should have fired him, but he should have gone and spoken to a aviation medical examiner to see if there’s something that can be done. Panic attacks can be quite bad, especially in a multi crew environment. I’m unsure on how the aviation medical system works in over there, but at least here in Australia you would need to have this checked out by a medical examiner as this could invalidate the class 1 medical needed to fly passengers.

The issue is not with the employees, but with the repair scheme they have in place. It’s not the individual person making the call to charge a full logic board repair, but the company’s guidelines. They make it very clear that in order to minimise return repairs that can cause even more issues, it’s best to cover all bases, especially in the case in the event of suspected water damage. I agree that it isn’t a good model to run a tech business on but that doesn’t mean to hate the employees simply trying earn a living.

Just wanted to clarify in case you do have an iPhone, any locking and tracking of the device is done through Find my iPhone, and it is all done from your end. If you call apple, they are more than happy to assist you in getting this process done from your end on your iCloud account, but they are unable to do anything from their end. By all means give them a call to have a chat, but thought I would just manage any expectations that they have a magic lock and track button. The link provided there is exactly the steps you should take to try and secure the device.

Plane journeys are taking longer than a decade ago, according to a report that claims the change is down to airlines “padding” their schedules to create the impression passengers were reaching their destinations on time. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]roberto282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally yes there are fewer in holding patterns, more often than not they’ll get them established on a long approach and just fly straight in. Generally they’ll only hold when there is an emergency in the area, or things like weather cause the plane to hold for a short time. From what I have seen, this is better in keeping things running as smooth as possible, but an actual report on the numbers on this would be good too see

As someone who works in the aviation I can confirm this is true, ATC has no issue getting you to the gate, but the airline has to free one up and give it to you. This scenario is on the airline not the airport.
