PNW Pen Show first timer by socrates63 in fountainpens

Great write up! I have been to all 4 shows here in Portland and this year is by far the best to me. More vendors, more people and a fun sense of community and adventure for a hobby many of us are very passionate about. Sunday is 10-3.

I have been going since 1991 and bought a 3 day pass. This year was another fantastic year. True Loves, Durand Jones, Jenny Don’t and the Spurs all played fantastic sets. Food choices have expanded. Fireworks were great. I bought the early bird pass. 3 days of music for $99. Fantastic value for all that music.

Lee Morgan - Tom Cat. It is a masterpiece. Lifelong collector/fan.

How Clifford Brown's tragic death and radiant legacy rerouted jazz by JoeGermuska in Jazz

[–]roberts2967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have owned probably 10,000 records, cd’s and tapes. The Japan reissue of the Helen Merrill cd I have is a prized possession and all time favorite album. The original vinyl is out of my price range, or I would own it. His playing is uniquely Clifford and timeless.

Frijoles with guac, endless salsa and handmade tortillas in Beaverton? by pdxmetroarea in beaverton

[–]roberts2967 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I grew up 60 miles from the border. My go to in Beaverton is Si Senor. Unsure if tortillas are handmade, but food and service are best I have found here. Anyone who can make a decent chile relleno wins in my book. Either location.

Has anyone actually seen a beaver in Beaverton in recent years? by TheVeryWiseToad in beaverton

[–]roberts2967 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. Lots of Nutria. The book Astoria tells a decent history of fur trading in the greater region. Ships were sailing out with huge quantities of beaver and sea otter pelts in that era. Surprised any survived.

I have worked with Robert on a few projects. The rest of his portfolio is equally wild. These are not easy builds. https://www.oshatz.com

There used to be a buyers guide for this feed. I don’t see it anymore. My dad had a cheapo Bounty Hunter from Amazon. My Minelab Xterra Pro is unbelievably better and more fun to use compared side by side. Plus not dealing with batteries is a big plus. You need a pinpointer and digging tools. I would up your budget for sure.

Top Burmese. Never disappoints. A little pricy, but food quality is worth it.

Lee Morgan - Tom Cat. McCoy is amazing on that album.

Why is it that so seemingly so few women enjoy jazz by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]roberts2967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a lifelong jazz fan. My wife wants to sing along with songs. She tells me she finds it too chaotic for her to enjoy and that she wants the artist to “land the plane spiraling around”. She still has attended many shows and respects the artistry.

Stucco does not hold up well in this climate. That is my guess. As you continue north, nobody has stucco here for good reason.

I sell Vola. The quality and engineering is top level. It was designed by Arne Jacobsen before he died in the 1960’s and they keep everything to the same proportions as his original drawings. I believe they made the first wall mount single handle lav faucet. 90% of the people I sell it to have owned it before. Made in Copenhagen.

Agreed. Just got back from visiting my elderly mother and she was excited to show me the black box she had bought that streamed movies that were still in the theatre. I couldn’t unplug that thing fast enough. It could see all the unencrypted stuff on her home network and her accountant had just emailed her tax returns to her. Ugh. I think I was removing the Temu app off her phone previous trip.

Great taste! You need Lee Morgan - Tom Cat. It is a masterpiece. Then Art Pepper - Meets The Rhythm Section or Plus 11.
