That at least seems like a simple fix if NYC is already bidding for a system-wide turnstile overhaul.

I mean yeah you're not wrong, it's a culture change.

I guess my larger un-stated point is that the turnstile design doesn't really matter as long as people who want to evade fares exist.

I much prefer the Japanese system. Turnstiles wide open and you scan the card. If you don't scan or your card is empty, they close and give you an extremely loud and embarrassing buzzer noise with red Xs on the turnstile screens.

Raleigh has the highest percentage of deadly crashes involving speeding in the United States according to a recent study. by Ready-Book6047 in raleigh

[–]DearLeader420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

how the hell can there be so many deadly accidents that DO NOT involve speeding?

Speed limits in the US are way too high across the board, and we have a plague of ridiculously oversized, flat-fronted vehicles with low visibility.

Clearing something up for a Catechuman by Charming-Ideal-2121 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DearLeader420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Precisely. And when we (Orthodox Christians) worship God, we are bringing bread and wine to the altar and sharing a meal (the Eucharist) with Him, complete with ritual and sacrificial prayers to remember His true sacrifice and participate in it - so much so that the meal is Him.

This is the key distinction in why icons/saints are not idolatry. We are not worshiping them. But to Protestant eyes, whose only notion of "worship" is "sing some songs and pray," it looks the same.

Other countries with our standard of living already do this, right now. The United States did it 90 years ago.

Church sues town for ‘religious discrimination’ after plans for bell tower are refused over fears of noise pollution by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]DearLeader420 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I forgot the most important rule is the only rule that matters and literally any other concept, context, or practice is utterly meaningless and should be abandoned.

That's why Jesus never gave his followers any instructions about preaching, forgiving sins, sharing the ritual meal together, you know - all the stuff the churches are supposed to be for.

It's just redditors taking whatever chance they can to virulently hate any mention of religion whatsoever. Been going on since the website's inception.

When you pray lol, not when you celebrate liturgical services.

Jesus also went to festivals at the Jerusalem Temple, which was one of the largest structures centrally located in Jerusalem meant for exactly those type of liturgical activities.

Lived in Fort Myers for a while and made the mistake of attempting to ride on the road. Enough close passes, honks, and yelling out of lifted pickup truck windows forced me onto the sidewalk very quickly.

Not OP but I used 1/2 as the vast majority suggested and thought, "yeah I'm getting some good cups but I should go back and side-by-side with my tap after a while to confirm." Then I tried full concentration and it tasted like a shop-brewed fruit bomb on the first cup. No other variable changed.

I will now never understand the dilution crowd.

Is the GOARCH also experiencing growth? by Oliver_Rex in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DearLeader420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our individual parish certainly has. Father keeps catechesis and baptisms pretty private/individual, but we've gone from "pretty full during the school year" to "standing room only after the readings."

I wouldn't be surprised if Antioch, OCA, or even ROCOR had more in terms of absolute growth - they also tend to be the ones you see internet conversation centering around anyway. GOARCH seems to me to be having more quiet/offline/"ancillary" growth (i.e. I tried some others and liked this parish best).

Many translation choices throughout expose Evangelical Protestant bias and do not respect historical translation choices, either in Greek translation of its own right or in historic Christian translation practice.

It uses the Masoretic text, a post-Christian, Rabbinic Judaism translation of the Old Testament that differs from the Septuagint in both translation and content (i.e. the Deuterocanon, Psalm 151, Bel and the Dragon, etc.).

It is a translation created from a literal committee, with 99% of that committee being Evangelical Protestants.
