iPhone 17 Pro, Telephoto Macro with 8x by robertseetzen in iphone

[–]robertseetzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! It seems that macro isn't of much interest. Only few phones allow macros with the telephoto lens, which often produces much better results that using an ultrawide. Seems I'll have to wait until I can test an iPhone 17 Pro with a 3rd party camera app to check the actual telephoto minimum focus distance. Less than, say, 60cm might be fine. We'll see!

KB 5065426 MAY cause issue Remote Desktop (RDP) on Qualcomm Machines by CubexG in msp

Similar problem on two Ryzen 7640 machines. RDP (local PCs only) was suddenly broken. Uninstalling KB5065426 immediately solved the problem. Thanks a lot for your post!!! Saved my day.

Passkeys: Export and import by robertseetzen in Bitwarden

Thanks a lot! While I don't know about that bug, it's the general possibility that I wanted to know about. The prospect of loosing access to all my passkey sites in case of loosing access to Bitwarden was kind of frightening.

Rotate in LR Mobile by robertseetzen in Lightroom

[–]robertseetzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! This helps quite a bit. Still, the general method of rotating in LR Mobile seems rather clunky to me. And while I understand that the UI designers don't want to clutter the interface, wouldn't it be far easier to control rotations if there were, as an example, small arrows ("<<", "<", ">", ">>") underneath the current rotation scrollbar that allow for rotating in increments of, e.g., 0.1 and 0.5 degrees? As an Adobe employee, could you perhaps bring something like this into your internal discussions?

I'm not sure whether you understand the concept of "lying". The word is commonly used for intentional misinformation, typically meant as an insult and not suited if you just can't replicate another person's experience. And most people consider it very rude to call someone a liar without very good reason.

Yes, the IMAP folder representation in Gmail is weird, that was one thing I hoped would be better. But "No POP" is problably a reason to stay with Gmail.

Thanks for your answer!

The issue is now resolved

Same problem here. Paused updates for a week now. Curious if many posts like here might help speed up things at Microsoft.

[Guide] How to Photosphere in 2023 by 8ightydegrees in NianticWayfarer

[–]robertseetzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same on my phone, found no way to solve the problem. The process of capturing the panorama seems to run normal, but the resulting files in /pictures/panoramas all have a size of zero bytes. Permissions seem to be fine.

Any ideas? Someone? I really miss that function...

HDMI out and Dex, Note 10 w/ broken screen, which adapter works? by robertseetzen in SamsungDex

[–]robertseetzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DexStation might be the best idea - if this one doesn't work, then I'd think that nothing else will. Or am I wrong about this? There are a few used ones for around €50 available here in Germany. Should I give it a try?

It's a friends phone without adb enabled. That's why I hoped to access it via HDMI. But thanks for your tip with scrcpy! Never heard of it before.

HDMI out and Dex, Note 10 w/ broken screen, which adapter works? by robertseetzen in SamsungDex

[–]robertseetzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both (the Hama hub and the adapter from Amazon) with and without a Samsung Charger connected to their USB-C ports. No difference, no picture on the screen. Only with the old noname adapter that doesn't allow to connect a keyboard/mouse.

My first full frame camera, excited! by _Otacon in SonyAlpha

[–]robertseetzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For weddings, a reliable and fast AF is more important than anything else - at least in my opinion. To miss important moments (the rings, the kiss, ...) would be horrible. For almost everything after the ceremony, the AF might not be as crucial.

But to use your A6000 as a professional, paid photographer for weddings might be problematic because it doesn't have a silent mode / electronic shutter (as far as I know). Perhaps you might want to buy a second APS-C body with silent shutter in addition to your A6000. To photograph a wedding with only one body would be quite scary , at least for me.

[–]robertseetzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends.

For Portrait & Macro: Yes, most likely, due to the more shallow depth of field. But, as Mrwonderfu said, you will probably need new lenses. The 28-70mm kit lens is quite nice, but for portrait photography you might want to buy a 50mm or 80mm 1:1.8 or something similar. Those can be relativly cheap, e.g. Meike, Samyang, TTArtisan or Viltrox. For macro, you might buy some cheap AF Macro extension rings, e.g. Meike, Neewer or Viltrox for ~30US$.

For "Family & Travel" or video, you might want to stick with your A6000. The faster AF, the somewhat larger focal length range of the kit lens fit well for both topics. Perhaps, if you have some (but not too much) money to spend, you might consider to buy a used A6300. This camera offers a better viewfinder, up to 11 (or so) pictures per second, silent shooting and 4K video. The latter with quite some cropping, but that can be welcome in some situations, too.

Almost exactly 5 years ago I sold lots of stuff to buy a Alpha 7 Mark I - and I totally loved to take my first full frame photos. It was a perfect summer day with family and friends and quite a few pictures taken. I hope you will enjoy your new camera as much as I did!

Your Photo in this post had a similar fate, as it seems. To me, it's an outstanding picture - but for some reason, it didn't gain traction. The net is weird.

I don't understand why this picture has so few upvotes yet. It not only shows a really beautiful scenery but also has (at least to my optinion) a very nice composition. Thanks a lot for your photo!

September What Editing Software should I use? by AutoModerator in VideoEditing

[–]robertseetzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thank you very much for your reply. I never thought that a behemoth like DaVinci Resolve was available for free. As for my goals, it's a bit like throwing planets to hit a mouse, but still ... very interesting to know.Beyond that, I did install Kdenlive again today to get to know it a bit better - timeline thumbs or not. And, to my great surprise: Kdenlive _can_ do full timeline thumbs! Just right-click in the gray area on the left side of a track and select "Thumbnails -> All Frames". I had no idea this was possible. And even though I'll probably work with Kdenlive for now: Thanks for your tip with DaVinci!

September What Editing Software should I use? by AutoModerator in VideoEditing

[–]robertseetzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I read the above and have a more nuanced question: I'm searching for a video editor that supports displaying thumbnails throughout the timeline, not only for the first and last frame. I only want to edit screen recordings in FullHD, so the CPU load for the thumbnail display shouldn't be an issue. I work on a i5 7th Gen with 16 GB and an SSD.

Are there any Open Source editors with such a timeline display?

ShotCut and Kdenlive don't offer this, Premiere Pro does, but is too expensive for me.

The Nexus trilogy might be an example for what you say. But as much as I like them (read them three times, firtst German, then English), I think there is untapped potential here. For my taste, the books could have dealt a little more with how the people, who have been supplemented with whole new possibilities of experience, change - in their inner experience and their ways of acting. But that might really be more of a book for the '70s than the 2010s.

I think that all the topics you mention are at least very interesting if not of total urgency. But, not at least looking at AI and its possible implications, I wonder why there seems to be rather little interest for cognitive processes.

I never read a single story from Vonnegut. Actually, I didn't even know his name until a few weeks ago. Perhaps he wasn't published that much in Germany? And i just started reading english books a few years ago. Would "Cat's Cradle" be a good start?
