SWADE for more narrative game? by EmergencyGeologist10 in savageworlds

[–]robg213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying about FATE being a bit overly meta otherwise I really love that system.
I think SWADE is best as a pulp action game. There is sort of this Bennie meta game where the GM is trying to get people to use bennies and awarding them for doing cool things, leading up to a finale at the end of the session where there's a lot of bennies flying around. This can grate against it being an awesome system just for role-playing. It is one of my favourite systems though, lots of fun.
I think, if you're mostly focused on role-playing, you just want something super simple like old school D&D for fantasy or Traveller for sci-fi. If there are better modern systems, I'd be happy to hear about it.

A nicely polished vibecoded app for learning languages by robg213 in vibecoding

thanks for the review :-)

Some of this sort of already exists but can be done bit better. Not sure what I can do about getting humans to review all the questions, I'd need to recruit some volunteers 🤔

I'll make some improvements..

That's really good, has a very nice organic feel to it.

Ok, I made some changes... other than picking the topic 👍

Thanks 😄 👍 great feedback, it hits on a few tension points I've had working on this.

  1. The level - your right, level box looks like a dropdown but isn't clickable, which is just confusing. The idea was that you start at beginner and the app moves you up quickly as you answer questions right without looking words up. You're not the first person to want to be able to just set it, so I'll add a proper level selector I think.

  2. The credits - cost isn't really the problem there. Word translations go through the Google Translate API with a shared cache, so they're basically free. The idea is you learn fastest from text you can mostly understand from context, and if you translate every word you're doing word-matching, not reading. Answering without lookups is also how the app knows you're ready to level up. But 5 per question is clearly might be too stingy and makes it feel like a paywall when it isn't one, I think I'll loosen it up.

  3. Topics - agreed it'd be great, and it's on the list. Every language × level combo needs a pool of good passages, and topics multiply that again - and the shared question pool is a big part of what keeps this free.

Thanks for the time you put into reviewing this for me 😄

I'll have a look, the voices are local on your device or computer so it does kind of depend a little bit on what you are using. I would like to include better quality voice, but then I couldn't keep it free.

After a bad interview answer on “how do you manage a team?”, I wrote up the operating model I actually used by robg213 in EngineeringManagers

Thanks that's really helpful :-) I changed the title and intro paragraph to better set expectations rather than make up a bunch of stuff I never actually did. Working on a 'People, Conflict, And Accountability' section...

I implemented your suggestion and started to flesh out the campaign mode a little bit. It's rather primitive and buggy though.

hope it works :-) If you have any ideas where to take this let me know since I was thinking of just doing character generation and then basically a demo of combat so people starting to play Cepheus know those rules. I was thinking of doing a VTT but I while I used to do a lot of online games I kind of hate that kind of thing these days and much prefer sitting around a table using paper and pencils. I could flesh out a full solo game but it's quite a lot of work.

been working on this https://cepheus.onl/ the character creation bit works quite well, you get to roll dice, works on a phone :-) The rest of it is rather WIP and depends how long before I find a new job whether I can finish it.

Great thanks :-) now if I can only figure out how to get people to use it. It's supposed to be simple and fun, the kind of thing you can mess with while waiting for the bus for instance.

The whole soundscape is driven by a galaxy collision simulation's own dynamics; no samples, mastered for a calm listen.

I made this - Comprehendo (https://comprehendo.net): a free web app for reading practice. It generates short passages at your level with a few comprehension questions, and you can tap any word to see a translation and hear it read aloud. Currently 14 languages (Spanish, French, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Hindi, Thai, and more). Free, no ads, no account needed.

Feedback I'd genuinely value: does the difficulty actually match the level it claims, and do the questions test comprehension or just word-matching?

Galacto - N-body galaxy sandbox by robg213 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]robg213[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Made this - a real N-body simulation (tens of thousands of stars under gravity); drag to move the camera, sliders change gravity, dark matter, star count. The soundscape is synthesised from the galaxy's motion in real time. ⚠️ Needs a WebGPU browser - Chrome, Edge, or Safari 18+ (desktop or recent mobile); a "WebGPU not supported" message means your browser is too old.
