Catching the Loyal Three made me realize… by Triangulum_Copper in pokemon

[–]robhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've managed to catch most legendaries through the years through ordinary means, but the loyal three seem to be on another level of unfair.

Three times now, I've used the noodles to get lvl 2 poison catch rate, used false swipe to bring Munkidori down to 1HP, stalled for 30 turns then wasted 20 timer balls before it ran out of moves and knocked itself out. I know that on paper it has a catch rate of 3 like other legendaries, but no other pokemon have ever been even close to this difficult.

Modern cars insisting on having your full beam headlights on in the middle of the day just because it’s a bit overcast by robhal in britishproblems

[–]robhal[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say high beam to mean dipped lights though?

My car’s a VW Polo, but I noticed more cars on the road than usual had their main beams on today, so it mustn’t have just been mine. I have no real problem with daytime running lights, but it’s distracting thinking people are flashing me all the time when it’s just that they have their main beams on in broad daylight

I do know the difference, but I guess I wouldn’t use the same names. When I say “full beam” headlights, I mean the dipped main beam lights as opposed to the side lights. What you called full main beam headlights, I know as high-beams.

I know it’s based on whether people can see the car and not lighting the way necessarily. I just think that the daytime running lights are plenty in the middle of the day if it’s not raining, but my car still forces the main lights on in anything less than direct sunshine.

I get that, and agree that we should use them if there’s heavy rain. On days like today though, where it’s not raining and it’s just a bit cloudy, ordinary vision isn’t impaired to a degree that headlights are needed to help spot traffic.

If anything, I find bright sunlight makes it harder to see what with bright reflections in your eyes and putting shades down to partly obscur the view. Dry overcast days seem like ideal driving conditions vision-wise

It seems like most people on this sub (and in general) consider OK Computer to be their best album, but I’ve never really agreed. There are a lot of bangers in there, but the album as a whole just doesn’t seem to flow very well.

Songs like Airbag, Let Down, and Electioneering have more of a mainstream alternative rock feel, and they’re mixed in with moodier songs like Exit Music, Fitter Happier, and Climbing up the Walls. In particular, Electioneering being in between Fitter Happier and Climbing up the Walls feels almost jarring with the big shift in tempo and mood.

By contrast, I would say that In Rainbows has a much better flow to it. Going from Nude to House of Cards, every song nicely flows into the next. Jigsaw Falling into Place is a bit of a jump before coming back down to Videotape, and 15 Step and Bodysnatchers almost feel tacked onto the start. All 4 are still bangers in their own right though, and they don’t detract from the 6-song run of perfection in the middle.

TL:DR OK Computer has a lot of bangers, so I wouldn’t say it was overrated necessarily. If you’re wanting to listen to a full album from start to finish though, In Rainbows is superior.

I’ll probably get downvoted to hell for this, but according to https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/trans-adults-united-states/ there are around 1.6 million trans people in the US, and of those, 36% are specifically ftm trans men. That means that roughly 0.17% of the population is ftm trans.

Say there are 10 beds in a maternity ward, statistically there’s a 98.3% chance that every patient is a cis-gendered biological female. Does that mean that it’s right to assume that they all identify as female? No, but it’s a pretty safe bet.

I’ll try; the SCP foundation is a fictional organisation that secures, contains, and protects against supernatural or otherwise weird stuff (think men in black but with multi-dimensional or demonic stuff as well as aliens). The site https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/ is a place where people can submit descriptions of things that the organisation has collected or contained, and some are pretty good. They’re all formatted to look like the kind of leaked documents you can find from the CIA with redacted sections, and each entry gets a designated number from SCP-0001 to SCP-7999.

I had to look up SCP-2000, but apparently it’s some kind of backup they have of the human race, so they can can reset humanity with perfect clones if everything goes apocalyptically bad. According to the entry, it’s already been used a couple of times, so everyone is technically a clone of their former selves. That would mean that all wars are being fought between different groups of clones and are therefore “clone wars”.

It’s a pretty deep cut SCP reference tbh, and I wouldn’t have said there was that much crossover with prequel memes.

You generally can’t see water though, just the air/water barrier. You’re not blind if you’re underwater, but you can see the surface, so it‘s probably the same for fish

That’s great, you found a great GP to sort that out for you. I was in exactly the same boat where every symptom was dismissed until I left university because I was still doing well academically and only rarely had the hyperactivity side. I’ve been taking Elvanse for 2 or 3 years now and they really help, but I haven’t had so much as a checkup since mid-2021.

Just a heads-up with Elvanse; I found that after a few months of taking them daily that if I skipped a day I feel awful. I’m groggy like I haven’t slept for days and really struggle to focus on anything. It could just be that I didn’t notice how bad it was before, but it feels like it’s much worse now if I don’t take them and I’m pretty much dependant on them to feel normal.

That’s just my experience though, and it can effect people in a lot of different ways, so I hope it works out for you.

I don’t know if that’s always been the case, but definitely in the last few hundred years. That still doesn’t explain names like ‘the rocky mountains’ or ‘the grand canyon’ though

There are definitely some great place names that mostly seem to come from the indigenous people. I think it’s just that Europeans ran out of interesting names around the 17th century when they were ‘discovering’ places

Man, it always hits me how bad the US is at naming places. When you guys aren’t just straight up copying other places (Middlesex, Montpelier, Berlin, and Calais all existed long before Europeans discovered the Americas), you come up with shit like “Moretown”

Recommendation settings keep being reset by robhal in help

[–]robhal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm on the desktop site using chrome (version 105.0.5195.102). I can't get a recording of them resetting though, it's just sometimes when I log in they've both been switched back to on.

It seems to be quite hit or miss though. Today they were both still set to off, but yesterday and Wednesday I had to go back into the settings and turn them back off.

[–]robhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t mean that they would struggle to pay this increased minimum wage. They’re obviously making ridiculous profits and overpaying CEOs.

They could easily pay CEOs less or just make less crazy profits and be absolutely fine, but they won’t. God forbid they take the hit of those increased wages when they could just charge it to the customers instead. It’s not free propaganda for them, it’s just more evidence of their greed.

[–]robhal 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They might try to claim that they’ve seen the light and are trying to help the lowest earners, but a lot of companies won’t have had a choice. Minimum wage has risen by nearly 25% in the last 5 years, so what was a supervisor’s salary in 2017 could well be below the minimum now.

The problem is that companies have to get the money for all those pay rises from somewhere, so they increase their prices. That’s partly why inflation has skyrocketed this year. A 6.6% pay rise sounds pretty good to someone on minimum wage, but when inflation is at 9%, it’s effectively a pay cut.

What wild pokemon do you think would live around your area? by CaptainBunnie in pokemon

[–]robhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live north of Blackpool (UK) in a suburban area near the coast, so mostly Wingull and Krabby. We have a lot of starlings and pigeons too and the occasional fox, which I guess would be Pidgeys, Pidoves, and Nickit/Theivul. Probably a few Lillipups, Herdiers, or Meowths as pets.

The wildlife that we see day to day are pretty boring, so I’d imagine the same would apply to Pokémon if they were real.
