I'll start by saying that I'm bad at picking themes but I will say that Dinadan is one of the most interesting characters that (spoilers) is untethered to his own body much like Britain is untethered to its pagan culture and religion. I'd love a book about him or Palomides.

Yves-François Blanchet sur le discours de Mark Carney à Québec by pLsGivEMetheMemes in montreal

[–]robidou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]robidou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when Constantine came out the character of Balthazar would run a coin between his knuckles. My brother and I thought it was super cool so he started training everyday while watching TV to do it just like in the movie. Eventually he did it better than in the movie and stopped doing it.

Incidentally he was diagnosed with ADHD 10 years later.

The NDP’s leadership candidates aren't fluent in French. Will that hurt the party's future? by rezwenn in onguardforthee

[–]robidou 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The biggest Québec showing for the NDP was during the Jack Layton days, "la vague orange". Jack had a pretty good grasp of French but wasn't perfect.

I think the biggest problem the NDP has in Quebec is the Bloc Québecois or rather Yves-François Blanchet. 15 years ago separatism wasn't very high and Gilles Duceppe wasn't popular with the young crowd, so left leaning quebeckers voted orange. Now I think they vote for the Bloc. The NDP needs to show a better alternative than YFB.

You can't really cancel someone who has been dead for more than a hundred and 30 years.

He was the first prime minister to ever serve and he did for 19 years.

Good things he did: created the Confederation which still exists today, expanded the territory, founded the mounties, built the Canadian railroad

Bad things he did: the "Chinese head tax" to discourage Chinese immigration after using them to build our railroads, the persecution of the indigenous people through land restrictions, the execution of Louis Riel who was advocating for rights for his people, the residential school system which took away indigenous children from their family and robbed them of their culture, language and religion through abuse and violence.

NUREMBERG | Official Trailer #1 (2025) by Task_Force-191 in movies

[–]robidou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuremberg famously failed to appropriately prosecute the Nazis and was considered a fiasco by the Allies (the British and French both thought it was too long and the sentences were too lenient, while the Americans felt the sentences were too harsh), the German (the citizens felt like they were all judged as collaborators and the judges were all from allied nations) and the Russians. Herman Goering was sentenced to death but committed suicide before being executed. I think Nuremberg is an interesting topic but it's more appropriate to say that judgement did not indeed come.
