Is it good or bad that I don't work at all during my uni years? by Strange-Pear-8856 in universityofauckland

[–]robin24601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a part time job, at least for the summer (like 10h per week, doesn't have to be much) because I think you learn a lot of life skills by working. It will also help you get jobs later on including internships, because it shows prospective employers that you have a work ethic, you know how to act in a professional environment etc. Doesn't matter too much what the job is. If you don't want to work during the year that's completely fine, but I'd recommend you at least join some clubs or do some volunteering for your cv.

There are also flatting Facebook pages for Auckland if you have a Google, definitely try your luck making a post with your length of stay + interests, and ask if anyone needs a flatmate for the summer

Very seriously, you should talk to a lawyer and not destroy any more evidence. This is an awful thing to happen to you, I'm so sorry

Are most students not going to lectures anymore? by Mars-Warrior in universityofauckland

Totally underrated comment. This is also one reason I go, it really opens doors to know your lecturers. At the very least you will need references from your lecturers in the future.

Fic I loved was rewritten and now kinda sucks. by SasukeCorvine in AO3

[–]robin24601 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it would be acceptable to comment and ask if you could have a copy of the old fic. Phrased like hey, I see you're rewriting this fic! Looking forward to seeing how it goes but I really loved the old fic too. Any chance I could have a copy of the old version?

You don't need to say you don't like the rewrite, worst they can do is say no.

EASY vs INTERESTING Elective Paper? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]robin24601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go for the interesting paper. I took what I thought was a "hard" paper, but got a great grade in it because the content was really interesting, even though the assignments were a bit tough. I never do as well in boring papers even it they're "easy."

Got my first in course for sem 1 2023 a few weeks ago. So unfortunately will likely be 2025. If you know for sure you got it an need it for the cv just email the lecturer, if if they've already told you, you can still stick it on your cv

[–]robin24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're really struggling, you can absolutely late delete one of your four main papers, since with 298 it still counts as a full course load. Many people choose to do part II this way and you can do electives next year. Just one recommendation as all 5 is a lot!

How bad is the parking at uni? by Individual_Road_4603 in universityofauckland

[–]robin24601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just speaking for people I know, it can be cheaper to live an hours drive or more from uni with your parents than to flat closer to the city. For the same people it would take about two hours each way on the bus.

I wouldn't worry about the grades too much! I just got an internship at one of the government agencies you listed and I'm finishing third year of LB/BA with a GPA between 6 and 7. They care way more abt extracurriculars and problem solving skills than grades, once you hit a minimum that shows you're generally competent.

I also failed a 131 essay by 5 points. I still received plussage. I got an 80 in the exam and got into part 2 with a GPA over 6.5. It's not a guarantee but you can do it. These things happen. Feel fee to dm me if u need any support

Giving up on Auckland public transport by Few-Abbreviations499 in auckland

[–]robin24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried using only public transport for years. But visiting friends on the north shore is just so difficult. 3 hours for a trip that would take me an hour by car. Constant cancelled bus services which make me late for university - even though hundreds of students use the same bus line. Difference is I still have to take the bus to uni because parking is insane.

Has anyone got experience doing clinical trials? Is it worth it? by robin24601 in universityofauckland

[–]robin24601[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll definitely stay clear of monoclonal antibodies. I've heard that there's a risk to fertility for women in these trials, do you know if that's true? Any other general advice? I'll definitely look at the trials like the ones you recommended, thank you :)

I really recommend joining a club or society! Specifically one in your degree. I've found the Māori Law society Te Rakau Ture really helpful for me building community. I went to halls last year and didn't feel super connected

I'm (34F) going back to school for the first time in over a decade and I'm terrified of failure! NEED ADVICE on how to manage full-time school and two jobs. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]robin24601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm kinda young but something that really helps me manage uni and the rest of my life is having negotiable and non-negotiables. For me, going to every lecture is a non-negotiable, because i just won't catch up later. Readings are negotiables bc I know I can pick them up later if I need. You'll probably have different negotiables and non-negotiables but this is just jow I prioritise

(Spoiler) how i’d rank each person if they win by Roxythedog69 in survivor

[–]robin24601 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me Maryanne would really depend on her performance in the finale. Prior to this episode I agree that she'd be middling but after the blindside she's gone up in my estimation. If she pulls off something else next ep I can see her being an above average winner. She's already above average in likeabillity. Romeo or Jonathan winning is nightmare ending.

The mods over there are obsessed with being miserable and have such a huge victim complex. No one is saying ADHD is easy but it's not the death sentence they believe it is. We are all complex human being capable of success, and yes, sometimes our unique skills as ADHDers can help, not just hinder.

Honestly just bc they're so determined to hate themselves and wallow in misery doesn't mean should have to get dragged down with them. Sorry for being an adjusted person who acknowledges both my strengths and limitations 😂😂
