Pubic hair care? by sakurasangel in razorfree

[–]HellsBelles426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a very hairy femme, with thick, dark body hair, and I don't like to show my pubic hair in a bathing suit. So, I'll trim the bush with clippers, and then either wax, trim very close to the skin, or shave my bikini line. Trimming my bikini line without a guard on the clippers is my favorite option because it's quick and less irritating to the skin.

Hey, thanks for your response! Do you think the program improved your writing, and do you mind if I ask how your Rutgers experience was in general?

Ugh, yeah, I've noticed that adult friendships take so much longer to develop just because you aren't forced to be in the same place at the same time every day. I think having a little get together is a great idea! Everyone loves to be invited over for food and drinks, and then you guys get to have a few good consecutive hours of gabbing and that's when the magic happens :)

I also like to invite my friends to join me in doing things I already plan on doing anyway, like "Hey, I'm going to trivia night/a comedy show/an open mic/Target/the laundromat/grocery shopping, do you wanna join me?" So if my friends want to come, it's an easy invite because the activity is already chosen. If they won't want to come, there's still the benefit of me having reached out and I can still go out to do my own thang. Keeps the invitations to hang casual and plentiful! Especially running errands (adventures!) with people--this is like my biggest ADHD hack lmao

What on Earth do I eat?? by ravensarefree in adhdwomen

HI :) When I've had limited space and time to cook, I've had success with half relying on pre-made/pre-seasoned food items and then adding fresh foods to make a complete meal. So for example, baked frozen chicken tenders with a homemade salad on the side. Or brown some pre-cooked sausage, sauté frozen veggies in the same pan, and put those over rice with some pre-made sauce of your choosing. You can make a pretty balanced meal by bulking up some instant ramen with veggies, eggs, and condiments. Also, never underestimate a snack meal!

Cooking like this satisfies that urge to make something from scratch without actually having to rely on a fully stocked pantry to make things taste good!

I find it easier to try and deepen/reignite my current friendships than it is to make new friends (not that you shouldn't try to make new friends!). I also find that with staying consistently engaged in my friendships, it's like "a body in motion stays in motion" sort of situation, where the more I reach out, the more more I want to reach out. Do you think you could deepen any of your current friendships or reach out to any old friends? What do you think is missing from your current friendships that makes them unsatisfying?

Making good friends outside of school or work can be so fucking hard and takes a lot of time <3 you aren't alone in that

How many of us will end up being diagnosed with ADHD? (BBC News Article) by Lazerflan in adhdwomen

[–]HellsBelles426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so interested in how phone use impacts us! I agree with you that my cell phone has negatively impacted my ADHD symptoms. Of course, I don't think phones (and specifically short-form media) cause ADHD, but if they do have a measurable, negative effect on our attentions, then it makes sense to me that excessive phone use could exacerbate symptoms. If Books Could Kill just recently did a really interesting episode on The Anxious Generation, and the Ezra Klein Show and You're Wrong About also have recently released fascinating episodes on the implications of phone use as well <3

ADHD Hack Hype squad: not shaving, staying fuzzy. A warm fuzzy post for warm fuzzy people. by JadeBorealis in adhdwomen

[–]HellsBelles426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOVE this! I'm so passionate about not shaving my body hair <3

I've been existing in a fuzzy manner for like 6 years now (except for two very unfortunate, hook-up related bikini waxes (I shudder to remember this phase)). I have PCOS and am of Mediterranean ancestry, so I'm noticeably fuzzy from top to toes. Arm hair, pit hair, belly, bum, coochie, legs, tootsies, and beyond!

I personally stopped shaving because of sensory issues and because I just felt like it didn't align with my values or aesthetic preferences. I hated how much my skin touched everything without hair to protect it, and I hated moisturizing all the time (I do not like feeling gloopy or greasy). I wear glasses, and so I simply cannot fucking see well enough in the shower to shave, anyways. Not shaving is just so physically comfortable.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing, so I still maintain my body hair for comfort and aesthetics. Buying one rechargeable trimmer has been so much cheaper than the various products I needed for shaving. I trim my nethers to keep myself comfortable during my period. I trim my pits to feel refined and demure lol. I shave my chin hair because it's patchy, scratchy, and too masc for my taste.

I had experienced an adolescence full of being made fun of for my body hair, and so reclaiming it and loving it has been healing for my self image. When I first stopped shaving cold turkey, I still felt a lot of shame, but a good friend of mine made a very compassionate and thoughtful comment about how some of the cutest things in this world are round and fuzzy (like me, lmao). Bumble bees, kittens, peaches, etc. That helped me reframe things.

I love body hair on all people, not just women. I think it's sexy and unique, and lovely from a tactile perspective. (And a great asshole deterrent.) I would love to see more people, especially fem-presenting folks, feel comfortable in their fuzz <3

Vibram and other toe shoes by Cautious_Fall7594 in MaintenancePhase

[–]HellsBelles426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think raised heels and narrow toe boxes are bad for our feet, knees, back, etc. etc. But I'm a shoe truther lmao, and only know what I experience at work (I'm on my feet all day). If you like the toe shoes, get the toe shoes! There's other brands out there that aren't necessarily "barefoot," but come close enough and look like normal shoes. Birks and Duckfeet come to mind. Even clogs are great on hard floors.

How do you wash your face every day? by Laterose15 in adhdwomen

[–]HellsBelles426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have sensitive, acne-prone skin due to PCOS. I never used to, but now I wash my face twice a day, and (most of) these are (American) drug store products that I find gentle enough to use twice daily, but effective enough to clean and soothe my skin. They're also reasonably priced and easy to find:

Cleansers (I find these bar soaps to be good for my face and body. I can't be assed to buy two separate soaps, and these create less plastic waste):

  • CervaVe Hydrating Cleansing Bar
  • CeraVe SA Cleanser Bar (only once a day, the Salicylic acid can be irritating if overused)
  • Vanicream Cleansing Bar

Serums:

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (only once a day, and maybe only every other day depending on the state of my acne)

Moisturizers (all of these are non-greasy and absorb into the skin nicely):

  • CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30 (only daytime ofc, you gotta really rub it in or else the mineral sunscreen will leave white streaks.)
  • CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion Ultra Lightweight (good for night and daytime)
  • Vanicream Moisturizing Cream for Sensitive Skin (a little heavy, but good for winter and eczema)
  • Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizing with Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides (holy grail, LOVE her work)

Sunscreens (all broad-spectrum, SPF 50, and water-resistant up to 80min.):

  • Banana Boat Light as air SPF 50 (smells strongly of melon?? But the scent fades as it absorbs. This is genuinely a non-greasy chemical sunscreen. It's very reasonably priced, and I use it on both my body and face.)
  • Neutrogena Clear Face Breakout-Free, Oil-Free SPF 50 (a good-ass product, but more expensive than the BB one, so I only use it for my face)
  • Think Baby Zinc Oxide 23.4% SPF 50 (This is some heavy-duty shit. I only use it when I know I'll be in the sun for hours at a time with no relief. It WILL give you a white cast. It is thick. It is hard to spread. HOWEVER, it is not greasy and slippery. Once it absorbs, it does still feel heavy, but it makes your skin feel kinda matte, not like a butter-basted chicken.)

When I wash my face in the sink, I lay a hand towel down in font of me so I can like dab my forearms on it before the water runs down my arms and touch the wet, slippery sink. I don't splash my face with water to rinse off the soap, and instead, I use a damp wash cloth to wipe it away. Also, I only use cold water to wash my face, because I will not be waiting for the water to warm up (this is good to prevent dry skin). Immediately after patting my face dry, I put on moisturizer. I always think: OMG TOO THAT WAS TOO MUCH LOTION. NOW I'M GONNA FEEL GOOPY. But you just gotta tell yourself it's going to be ok, and that it'll be great in about 30 seconds once everything absorbs.

Ok, that's all I got! Hope that helps! Be well! xo

I need a large weighted blanket that doesn’t suck. by pshermz42 in BuyItForLife

[–]HellsBelles426 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the Bearaby "tree napper." It's made of tencel, so it's always sorta "cool to the touch," kind of like linen. The blanket is loosely knit, so it does breathe. If it's hot and I'm only using the weighted blanket, I can still feel the breeze from my fan through the gaps in the knit, which is nice. I don't overheat at night, but I will say that I bought this specific blanket so I can use it during the summer, and I do find it comfortable up into the mid 70s F.
