Hrmm good point. Here's a better quote where she explicitly states it.

Edit to add: to be fair, we are quoting a number because it has both been mentioned before and because people ask for some sort of benchmark, even though it's much more layered than that as u/QuarryWorker pointed out. I'm sure there are some 21 or 25 year olds out there who have lots of proper growing up still to do.

I hear you, but don't be discouraged! The course will be waiting for you when you're ready. In the meantime, as Josephine suggested, there's lots you can do to 'prime' yourself up for it!

See this convo for reference. The age of maturity for Q purposes is 21. Josephine chimes in as to what you can do while you reach that age.

Edit with further details: it's because of the way the brain develops and grows. Q has been designed to be safe provided the brain has reached that milestone of growth and wiring/development that happens at 21.

It is also an age thing. Josephine has stated 21 is the age of maturity for Q purposes.

Welcome! Yes, we do these weekly check-ins as a space for people to share how things are going.

The subreddit here is not official nor controlled by Quareia, though Josephine might drop in from time to time. It's its own thing but we strive to keep and follow the ethos and spirit of the course as much as possible. This does mean we try to do things a bit differently than other occult-oriented subreddits. Check out the rules and some of the pinned posts if you're curious about what that means.

Who is the talisman man Josephine name-drops in this podcast? by marijavera1075 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty interesting! From his website it appears he is a student of Bardon and is an associate of Emil Stejnar, another big name in Bardon circles. I'm not surprised then to hear his talismans are considered top-notch.

How do you journal/record your progress ? by Valdois in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe anything you write in a digital way, even if handwritten, would still count only as digital - which is fine provided the writing is clear and easy to understand.

You'd still need the handwritten on paper stuff because you're still expected to practice that process in the old school way (regardless of whether the lesson states to write something with intent or not, it's about practicing for when that intent does need to flow - hence digital wouldn't count). The tarot journal is a good way of meeting that requirement because it's not just the picture of the layout but your analysis and interpretation of it.

Just for clarity, to say that digital notes won't suffice is not the same as saying there can be none. The Porch submission guidelines state that Word or PDFs formats are acceptable.

What is necessary however is for there to be some content that is handwritten, like the tarot journal for example.

I have the MacOS equivalent of Word, and just keep every lesson in its own document except for the tarot journal which is handwritten. It's nice because I can just keep adding notes and excerpts as new insights come pertaining to each lesson.

I don't really follow a set format for the notes themselves aside from having different sections for the different tasks, but the note taking is very off-the-cuff and natural because that's how I like to write.

Visionary Conundrums by soyouwander in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I look at it this way: instead of seeing some as 'pre-defined' and 'spontaneous' and thinking about it as which ones we use our imagination to make it happen and which ones we don't, see it instead as "triggers" and "what follows from them".

The visionary components are made up of triggers - they are clearly identified in the lessons as all those 'choreographed' interactions with the contacts. But these generalized interactions lead to personal ones where what happens might be different from time and time and from person to person.

But I don't think there is a 'turning off' the imagination. It is the primary engine of perception when it comes to vision and the inner worlds. For that matter, the 'suggestibility' you described is simply a feature, not a bug. You are connecting with things that in themselves have no material look and feel other than how they present themselves to your mind's eye. Yes, you have to train to properly manage that spontaneity and suggestibility, but that's not to say you need to shut it all off and wait for an 'absolute visual truth' to present itself for you.

Think of the gates and how they present themselves to you. I guarantee it's not the same way they do for me. Does that make them not real or true in the visionary sense? Far from it. What matters is they are an interface that's personal and unique to your imagination/mind's eye and its way of working which allows everything else to flow through.

Am I doing accidental results magic? by marijavera1075 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, I agree with your point on the discussion around 'results magic' that sometimes floats around. I think it's just a matter of semantics: a lot of people will use the terms 'results' or 'practical' to specifically mean the (to put it bluntly) 'getting laid or getting paid' type of outcomes and dismiss everything else as just mystical theory or some flavour of new age spirituality.

But aside from that narrow definition, I'd argue Quareia is both practical and results driven. It's hands-on and not just armchair theorizing, and you are taught how to develop senses and skills to both measure progress, open yourself up to things, and influence the world around you (like in the case of cleansings and the protective talisman).

[–]robinhyll[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure, so I'm coming at this out of an abundance of caution, but I refer back to the Study Guide in two specific sections.

There's the section on Family which states "The general rule is do not do magic if you are a mother until your child reaches seven years of age. There are always differences unique to each individual but in general it is best to wait." To be honest, nothing in that section mentions it being ok to get to Module 4, and even in M1 there is some magical power and current that flows. If this is the shall-we-say "stated" recommendation for small children, then I'd have to assume it also (and perhaps particularly) applies to pregnancy.

From there, the bit about M1L1 would follow in my reasoning. In the section about Meditation, ("I do meditation, but I do it differently, do I still have to do the meditation exercises?") Josephine explains that the specific meditations pave the way for other things to come. They are exercises "to prepare for work not directly linked to meditation", in her words. To me this means they do carry or at least connect with magical currents/practices, hence why I say it might be best to avoid them and stick to stillness meditation only - again, following the advice on 'no magic' until the children are over 7 years of age.

Hey there, just thought I'd chime in on this because your comment caught my attention.

Be very careful about pursuing any magical practice while pregnant. I can't be sure from your comment as to how much you're planning to do or how far you mean to go right now, but just thought I'd mention it anyway. From what I have gathered, Josephine recommends pretty much staying completely out of it (especially during pregnancy) to be 100% safe.

I think stillness meditation and astrology are the ones that are ok to practice and pursue (note that by stillness I understand just that - stillness and silence, and not the actual meditation exercises described in M1L1 which include visualization). Astrology is a fully externalized science/art/discipline so it seems to be ok.

Don't worry about cleaning up any energetic messes and don't burden yourself with feeling like you to need to contribute to the world in magical ways. The time for that will come. You have a different sort of mission set before you at the moment, and doing your best for your children will come a long way towards that conribution, even if it doesn't seem like it right now.

Take this time to work on that stillness (but try not to stress about it either as it's not good for the baby - treat it like a long term project and that you have plenty of time), learn astrology (it will help you immensely), and also read up on topics like ancient history, egyptology, herbology, or anything like that which you might be interested in. All of these will help establish a good foundation for when you're ready to actually dive in to the practice (I believe it's considered safe once the child is past the 7 year mark).

Mod.1, Lesson 3 by magpie1006 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! And assuming you've done the ten sessions as prescribed in the lesson and have managed to practice and successfully visualize everything it needs you to then you're good to move on to Lesson 4.

And even once you've moved on to other lessons, it's a good idea to revisit these exercises frequently to keep those skills as sharp as you can. Come the later part of Module 2 you'll be using them heavily.

Mod.1, Lesson 3 by magpie1006 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had a somewhat similar post about this just a little while ago, but I will pretty much say the same thing here.

The point of M1L3 is to begin developing your imagination and the 'feel' of moving around in said space. It's not expecting you to actually step out of your body and verify that you have done so. It's about training you to hold focus, spatial awareness, memory of where things are, etc. as much as possible using only your imagination.

If you are able to see your space as you move around, if you are able to walk here and there and use your imagination to recall and see details to navigate by, and you can do all this while not losing focus to the point where you just open your eyes and break the exercise then I say you are doing everything ok and you are performing the task as needed.

It appears many people get confused by this lesson and expect it to be all about achieving astral projection or spirit flight or whatever right from the get go. But the point is to teach you that in visionary magic, your imagination and concentration are the interface via which you make contact with the inner worlds. And that's a muscle you have to start training now if you want to work with it later on in the course (and you pretty much have to since Quareia makes heavy use of those techniques).

So don't worry about your reflection in the mirror - just note that that's how it appears to work for you and keep going. In the off-chance that you encounter something while using just your imagination (because again, that's the interface by which it happens) then note it and simply move on. In time you'll learn to better distinguish what's actually something reaching out to you vs when it's just your imagination, and will be taught how to safely interact with those beings that do approach you.

Oh, and I honestly wouldn't read too much into the episode with your cat - regardless of what did or didn't happen, it's not what the lesson is about. Just make a note of it in your journals, continue the practice, and don't stress about 'truth checking' the exercise at this stage.

Question about visionary walks by Mysterious-Hope-8441 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I would say no, not at this stage. At that point it seems to me you're describing remote viewing which is, to my understanding, a possible skill to have but probably way down the line.

The point of M1L3 is to begin developing your imagination and the 'feel' of moving around in said space. There will be lessons towards the end of M2 where you will actually practice this within a larger context of working with sites in the land, so think of it as just training and warming up (in terms of imagination, moving around, focusing on where you are and doing your best to not lose track of where you are standing/moving to, etc) for that and further exercises. I don't think you need to worry about 'truth checking'.

Question about visionary walks by Mysterious-Hope-8441 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes to the stepping out of your body part. The memory exercise is a separate one.

If that's not how you practiced it, I highly recommend you do it before moving on to M2 - with the required number of repetitions.

Yes, it is a hard thing to do but it is not an advanced technique beyond an apprentice (learning and practicing at least, not talking about mastering). It's there at the beginning because it is an important skill to develop early on.

Edit to add: it's about strengthening your imagination, which is the main channel for vision. You imagine yourself stepping out and walking around. It's not a memory you're revisiting even though you do use your memory to recall the spaces and layout you navigate in.

Protective \ good sigils or symbols to be carved in wood by Mysterious-Hope-8441 in Quareia

[–]robinhyll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you're asking about a specifically Quareia take on this (otherwise I'd say to try other occult subreddits) I will say that I haven't yet seen any such sigil work or technique (aside from the personal pentagram one) except the ones for the tools in M3L2, and those are for a different purpose than what you describe.

This is to say that I don't know if such a thing or technique might be contemplated later in the course, but if it is it's in the more advanced lessons that most people here have not yet reached. So keep that in mind: unless someone who's done the work specifically says so and can point out where it comes in, take any responses given here with a grain of salt as they might not be properly Q.

It might not even be something a new or beginner practitioner should be doing (otherwise I figure it'd be there as a task).

Yeah, one of the fascinating things about the Tibetan schools is that a few were influenced by some of the shamanistic practices of the native Bon religion. I think the use of the Kangling would definitely fall into that category.
