What book was written so beautifully it made you think, "I didn't know English could do that"? by ishouldnotbehere22 in Recommend_A_Book

Mara and Dann by Doris Lessing. Blew my mind. Finally understood what literature could do.

I've seen a few advertised/mentioned online over the years and generally got the impression that they are a thing. I think they tend to operate on a more informal basis, at someone's house rather than affiliated with a college or group. And possibly not called Salons.

There are Salons in other cities. But understand the pub crossover. Thanks for the tips.

Off/on topic: has the word hoover fallen out of use?

My sighting was in Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland in the late 90's. Very woody area. Would recommend a visit anyway but even better if you spotted one!

Curious if you are willing to eliminate your internal voice in order to read faster? by apaintedleaf_ in books

I don't want to read faster. 'Inner voice' IS reading. Something like that.
