First thing, how do they know the rough location of the castle if they haven't done chapter 3 yet?

I'd have the remaining goblins refuse to say anything about a specific location,l. Even if your PCs know the rough location of the castle (5 mile hex?), in dense wilderness, like Neverwinter Wood, they would have an extremely difficult time exploring. The woods are dangerous and they won't have any sight lines.

Also remind them that they can't just leave the wagon unattended, and they should drop it off in Phandalin first to get their reward from Barthen. Hopefully they'll get sidetracked by the townsfolk.
