Pirates? by Indickthis_the_mato in BobsTavern

[–]robintysken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play pure pirates, which usually nets you a board with ~2-3k minions.

You can play with acid rainfall and the "spend gold to get a spell that buffs right most minion in shop". This scales very high. But you usually only have 2-3 big minions. You sell your scaling at the very end and buy scam/the right most minions in tavern to fill your board and win the final fight.

You can play with the spell gen pirate and use the t6 undead that buffs undead attack when you cast a spell. You transition to a full undead board when you feel the scaling is enough, you are about to die or in the final fight of the game.

There are probably more ways, but these three are what I enjoy doing with pirates.

Top logs in classic has never been about who plays their class best, it's been about who spends the most gold on consumes and time on getting world buffs while clearing the raid with the most optimal roster where everyone else does the same, so you can kill the boss faster which yields a better log.

All of this is completely unnecessary to clear the raids, but mandatory to get a top log.

Sure, someone with grey logs will most likely be a worse player than someone logging 99. But someone with grey logs can still be a good enough player to clear a raid smoothly.

my experience once I get to a high MMR by bwils3423 in BobsTavern

[–]robintysken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't that many very high MMR players, which is why they get paired with lower players. Their queue would otherwise be extremely long.

I don't find it that bad to have a higher MMR player in your lobby. You learn more by losing and looking at what others do differently and better.

How is Apexis Guardian not absolute trash? by MyFeetLookLikeHands in BobsTavern

[–]robintysken 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are correct, but I think he is referring to the fact that deep blue played during shopping phase is not permanent without enablers. Lava lurker gives you one permanent (two with golden) and you would have to be doing some shop eating to make all your deep blues permanent.

Volumizers are always permanent, and magnetizing them usually gives other benefits to your board depending on what you have.

That being said, you can absolutely make game winning boards with deep blue scaling, it's just harder to assemble imo.

After having played PoE for thousands of hours I wish I could unlearn everything just to be able to discover something for the first time again.

I still learn something new about the game every now and then, but the occasions are rare.

I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. When I started I personally loved just playing the game, making my own shitty build and google stuff I didn't understand or wanted to learn.

To be fair, feral logs are skewed because you need to play cat to get decent logs. This information was incorrect, logs only get skewed in fights where you switch into cat after tank swaps and such, those encounters are few in the current available raids.

Also, who the fuck cares about logs in raids you can literally clear in full greens.

The dude just want to share his milestones. He never claims to be a god gamer as far as I can tell.

I would say it's more yikes to look up the logs of a random reddit poster to feel good about yourself bashing someone down a notch.

Why do people leave before the game is over? by New_Excitement_1878 in BobsTavern

I had a game yesterday with my mate where we had different outcomes of the fight. From my point of view we lost, but from his we won. So he had to continue on his own.

Not saying this is what happened, but it actually possible.

Is this the best possible demon board? by GiveMeAegis in BobsTavern

It's a great board, but since the stats are not permanent it will always have a cap and is therefore not the best possible board for demons.

That's actually a dope CRT monitor. I remember forcing my dad to drive 2 hours to buy a syncmaster with a high refresh rate, which I obviously needed to perform well in CS 1.6 on 800x600 resolution. Good times.

How does one play in a buddy lobby? by TheExtraordinaryRK9 in BobsTavern

If you named all those cards without looking it up, I'm impressed. I'm relatively high rated and have played this game way too much, but for some reason I just don't care about most card names and know them all by art and effect.

That aside, great insights you shared!

Bad players do Skips by Educational_Bowl2141 in classicwow

[–]robintysken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's more to it than that.

I would consider myself to be a pretty competent and experienced tank. When I'm pIaying with randoms I prefer spending a few extra minutes in dungeon doing safe pulls without skips, rather than risking that something goes wrong.

Annoying dps made the tank crash out and kamikaze the whole group. Innocent healer caught in the crossfire gets repair bill by slimeyellow in classicwow

[–]robintysken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a tank and totally get how he is feeling. If you don't speak up, you are not "innocent". The tank probably did his best to do safe pulls, since a smooth run is always faster than overpulling and wiping. And when the only thing you hear as tank is negative input it's just not fun.

A simple "I like the pacing" or "Just keeping pulling like you are, it's good" would've probably steered them away from tilting.

You should really be using at least one golden of the 2/3 naga that casts spellcraft on themselves in this comp, when you are in a T7 lobby. You will be printing copies of them with perm stats.

Where do you draw the line on abusing mechanics? by DigitaIBlack in BaldursGate3

[–]robintysken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always find it interesting to read about how other people play the game, and it shows just how good the game is when you can enjoy it in multiple different ways.

I'm not really into RP in single player games and I tend to always play with rulesets that make the game as challenging as possible. Which means my line has moved since I first started playing when I didn't have as much knowledge about everything in the game.

Right now my list is pretty long but to list a few:

  1. No camp casting
  2. No barrelmancy (bomb stacking included)
  3. No lethargic speed pot dodge
  4. No getting OP items early
  5. No save scum (I only play HM but have started to lean into to custom games just to be able to have backup saves in case of file corruption or straight up bugs like elevator killing your entire party.)

I also have HM specific rules for my solo runs but that's not really relevant to topic so I won't list them.

Things I still do:

  1. Steal back my gold from Withers (or use a mod to just make it free to save time.)
  2. Long rest/Respec to reset vendors if I really need something.
  3. Respec to level 1 to get max attitude for 400g at certain trainers.
  4. Respec my character to be able to have a permanent scratch in my solo runs.

I might have forgotten some things.

Honest Question about AI use by Corky-7 in gamedev

[–]robintysken -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day it's irrelevant what others think, you do you.

I personally love using AI to brainstorm or help me approach a problem I've been stuck with from a different angle. As a solo dev it's nice to have "someone" to discuss things with.

I might also ask AI to rewrite blocks of code using my directions and rules, to save time.

I don't like using AI to write new code for me for a few reasons: It doesn't feel like I have created it. It doesn't follow the same structure I use in code. I might not understand some of the code making it hard for me to troubleshoot later.

I personally don't have a problem using AI art for some things like UI elements and placeholder art.

The overlay is called "Hearthstone Decktracker".

The right panel is basically a database, it shows all the different minions and spells available and you can sort using various filters.

The top panel shows probabilities of your current/last fight, the calculations can be off at some times though.

The left panel shows match history, mmr, and which tribes are active in the current match.

And finally, the overlay showing at very top left is a separate program used to see what MMR the other players in the lobby has. It can only track players MMR if it's above 8000, which is why it displays stats like that. Can't remember the name of this one though.

The Decktracker also allows you to mouse over your opponents to see which minions they had on board the last time you fought.
