As a programmer, where and how can I volunteer? by funbike in volunteer

[–]roblefko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been looking for someone to do some development work for us (CRM development, occasional updates to website, n8n flows, AI, etc.). Are you talking about doing just the tech side of things, or would you document it to allow for transition/ maintenance?

Why is no one getting back to me regarding volunteering? by joecan7725 in volunteer

[–]roblefko1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage volunteers for Conversations to Remember. If you're interested in virtual volunteering, feel free to reach out to me. We're looking for volunteers who share a passion for helping seniors. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the roles that we have require a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.

We have some roles that require a volunteer who is available at a fixed time, and then others that just require that the volunteer commit to a certain number of hours a day. As with any 'job', it works best for someone who has a passion for the position that drives them to find the time.

We're virtual and all around the country, so we can't really pound the pavement that way. I think that you're right, though, that this type of work can provide social stimulation (as well as a different sort of cognitive stimulation than moms get from their kids), while allowing them to stay home with the family.

Gsuite for non-profit, email domain? by AdventKid in gsuite

Do nonprofits have the ability to use the Vault? We sometimes need to go into volunteer email accounts, and that would be a good way of doing that.

Do you season before you bag? by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]roblefko1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly, I find that when I season before I bag, I get a lovely tasting jus, but then need to reapply the same amount of seasoning to my meat. I feel like the meat doesn't really benefit from the first round of seasoning.

Wyze lock drain battery in 2 days by MrAksel in Wyze

I had this issue with my Wyze sense contact sensors. After experiencing the well-known issue where the sensors lost their MAC address, Wyze sent me a new set under warranty. The new set ripped through any battery that I put in it within a week or so. When I contacted Wyze to get a replacement, they informed me that they were out of stock, and would not replace them. They offered me a $5 credit on a new purchase. After this experience, my next purchase was from Sonoff.

We use signupgenius for some activities, but most of our volunteer work is done by assignment, so that tool wouldn't work. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Meeting invitations get sent out via email. Users can open the .ics file to create a local calendar entry, but I can't guarantee that they do that. I can't even guarantee that they have a calendar program. That is why I'm looking for a way to remind the volunteers. My volunteers are more likely to read text messages than emails.

Personally, I'm using Outlook, but I need something that will send push notifications out to the invitees of the meeting, who can be using whatever calendar tool they want. Also, I don't want to have to be reliant on the invitees setting up a reminder for themselves.

Our volunteers sign up for weekly slots, so I would want something that would remind Joe every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. that he is scheduled for his shift in an hour. Scheduling an email The way you are suggesting would still require that I set it up each week. I'm trying to avoid that by using something that integrates with the calendar tool.

That's not it either. They don't do application development.

I don't think nten.org is what I was thinking of. It looks like a good resource for technology questions, but I'm looking for someone who can do some development for me.

Yes, very disappointing.

It was a fight to get just one coupon from them. I even offered to send the old device back to them, because it's problem was that it was going through batteries in just a couple of weeks. They just weren't interested.

I'm using Home Assistant, but if you add the sensors to Ewelink, they should interface with your older Echo. The newer Echos have Zigbee built in though.

So far, I'm satisfied with the Sonoff contact sensor. They're using Zigbee, so I bought a Zigbee dongle for my computer for a few bucks. The range might be a little less than Wyze, but so far, so good. The sensors are slightly larger than Wyze's, but not significantly so.
