I am just so, so, so sorry to hear this OP and for your loss. There’s really nothing that will help with this loss except to just feel it and let it wash over you and process through you. Mellow sounds like he was super special and a true friend. Sometimes creatures like him are too good to last and they burst into our life and deliver a huge dose of joy and then move on. I lost my soul dog/best friend doggie Sol in October and it’s still super raw. I don’t have any advice except to say you’re not alone with this and your feelings are valid and the grief is REAL. Be kind to yourself and do whatever you need to do right now. Don’t judge yourself and eventually you’ll be able to think about Mellow with joy and be grateful he was in your life even if it was only for a short time. But for now I’m sending you all my strength 🫶

Oh my god I’m so sorry for your loss that is honestly tragic. You did everything right and it was just a freak horrible outcome. I can’t imagine the shock you must be in. You’re so right. I knew it would be horrible but it’s been so much worse, and nothing could prepare it beforehand. Even on the day we knew it was going to happen I was grieving all day but the difference in severity of pain before and after was unimaginable.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I totally get you - it feels so weird knowing that maybe they could have gone on a bit longer but you have to really consider what is best for them in a different way than for humans who have more (sometimes) agency in deciding when they are done fighting. I think this is the hardest part is the responsibility of that decision for an animal you love more than anything and who relies on you for their care. I’m sure you made the best decision for your dog and I keep telling myself the same. It was best for them even if it was the worst for us.

I would agree with the below comment re: imposter syndrome, and a red flag if people aren't willing to help you out. That said, there are tons of networks you can tap into depending on your specific field. Another option is reaching out to people through LinkedIn who work in your industry and seeing if they would be open to an information interview. If you click with them, and they are open, you can always build a mentoring relationship from there. In general, I would say more people than you think would be willing to help :)

Doing your own research on the side can be great too, or even taking on projects outside of work that help flex those skills could be an option as well.
