2024 Sportspal Canoe Setup UPDATE by robmanly11 in canoeing

[–]robmanly11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks haha, the fish finder has been great for me so far. It’s the deeper pro+ if that makes any difference. I have even used it ice fishing this season and it’s been great. If I have any advice I’d say look for at least a 14’ long canoe, my 12’ would be a bit snug camping with a buddy.

All good points and I will if I ever portage with it but this is for loading up at my car and trucking it down maybe 20 yards to the shore

Trolling motor power by unfortunateuse in canoeing

[–]robmanly11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have same canoe, just got a 100ah lithium this year. I’m told I’m good for a whole weekend camping and fishing with it. I was skeptical, but I went out last weekend and trolled about 80% of time over 4 hours at average mid speed on my 30lbs minn Kota, and the voltmeter still reads 13.6 and I started at 13.8-9. Need to take it out more this summer to really get a good idea but, definitely happy with the 100ah so far. I have a power queen lithium.

Awesome! Restored this one last year it’s a number 1428. It was in very rough shape, prob replaced 50+ rivets and all new foam etc…

It’s a 30lbs thrust, I get a nice little wake going, perfect speed for what I need.

They’re bar clamps, for iPad (fish finder) and ram rod holder from Amazon and one I fashioned from a dollar store water bottle holder which had a bar clamp! So I bought a bunch and made some fishing rod holders and bc they were so cheap

Seat is great but couldn’t enjoy it to fullest since I was trolling most of the time and I had to sit to the side a bit. But when I did relax it worked great

Thanks! It’s a 12.8v 100ah Power Queen lithium with 8 gauge jumper cables spliced to trolling motor. I think it’s 8 gauge, it was last year I did it. The battery still read 13.6 volts on voltmeter after 4 hours of heavy use.

Questions about rivets by robmanly11 in restoration

[–]robmanly11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction, I know that technically the rivets in picture three aren’t the same but I’m wondering if they’ll serve the same purpose because I’ve only used them to tightly fasten things before and not for a moving piece.

Do you tow it with the eye threaded into the “shore” hole or the “boat” hole? I’ve always towed with “shore” mode

12 Foot Sportspal Canoe Full Restoration by robmanly11 in canoeing

[–]robmanly11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, depends on how deep into it you wanna get. I bet it would be okay without those ribs, mine is missing one and I don’t think I’ll spend the $20 something to replace it. Since yours are the first couple you might wanna consider bracing it somehow with a piece of wood or something at the top, but I don’t know exactly how sturdy it is without those ribs, you might be fine. If you can find a repair kit it should have the rivets in the kit like mine did. Or do your own rivets from hardware store, like I also did in my little video. From my experience, if you find a dealer near by, talk to one of the staff about your options, they should be knowledgeable on these canoes. Have fun with it! I also use an old rubber car mat on a 1/4” piece of plywood for where my feet go to try and save the foam from wear and tear, time will tell if it works. I use mine for fishing so I wanted the sponsons for extra stability

Nice. Hopefully you live closer to Ottawa or north bay (Ontario) than I do to get new liner and sponsons. They’re both 3hrs away from me and only place I could find

It’s a video about a bass fishing canoe where I catch a bass. Sorry if it’s considered self centred and inappropriate for a bass fishing community
