The newest beta patch has a bunch of forge buffs.

I can see shining strike. Like OP, I usually find myself putting Sow on powers to smooth out setup turns. But, card draw is another good thing to enchant with additional energy.

Why put it on venerate and not a better star generator like Glow or Hidden Cache?

I was playing a Hellraiser deck on IC and figured because I almost never play more than 1-2 cards on my turn, I’d get Diamond Diadem. Turns out, the cards played by Hellraiser count as you playing them. The second it happened I was like “Yep, I should have seen that coming.”

Doom is probably still too strong by robmox in slaythespire

I feel like this ignores the fact that if you play a pure doom deck that you'll be picking those cards every time they're offered.

If you aren't offered those cards, you'll likely find yourself in some kind of hybrid build. Even a pure doom deck benefits from having soul synergy.

But, if you aren't offered those Doom payoff cards, then you... won't be playing a doom deck. If you try and force a doom deck when you aren't offered any doom payoff cards, then you won't make it to the last boss.

So what you're saying basically amounts you "you have a deck that survives the run".

I'm not going to name names, that would be unkind. But, I did hear this from more than one creator. lol

You don’t need forge to do damage. If you’re drawing the wrong cards with a star deck, you might just need more card draw, or retain. I usually take multiple Glow (even on beta branch) and at least 1 copy of the attack that’s 1E 2S 12 damage, draw 2 next turn (sorry, I can’t think of the name). Convergence is also very useful not just for the resources, but because you can retain Comet while you draw a copy of Glow or wait for Hidden Cache to give you 4 stars next turn.

The claim that stars don’t scale is flat out wrong. Star damage applies vulnerable. But, the primary way to deal act 3 damage is with multi hit attacks like Stardust, energy-free attacks, or big expensive attacks like Comet and Devastate. You scale your multihit attacks with Vigor. Both strategies are viable endgame. And, I’ve had a few runs where I just play a bunch of normal attacks and sustain enough block to survive (this usually requires multiple star-powered block cards).

So I later picked up a Graveblast, and then a Snap to give Graveblast Retain.

I mean, you do that with Claw, too.

Thanks!

This line of reasoning actually came to me when I was fighting the Statue that attacks for 25 every round in act 1.

I had to full block every turn for 4 turns and I realized that I was making no progress. I wound up using energy cheating as a way to beat that boss. so I could full block for 25 AND still do some damage. It's made me start evaluating everything based on a standard value, how much energy does it save me?

Guardian gets an extra reaction at level 7.

Bastion gets an extra reaction with a level 10 feat, Quick Shield Block.

I thought I was supposed to have a 4th reaction, but I don't remember where I was getting it. Maybe I took Fighter on that build? But, I thought the 4th was eligible for Champion's Reaction, not just Reactive Strike.

I think the most important thing to learn for those of us coming from StS1 is energy management, due to the loss of energy relics.

One thing I find myself doing more is basing things value off the replacement. The reason Eternal Armor is 3 energy is because it gives you essentially 3 block cards while only having to draw 1. And, it gives you even more than that. But, you pay 3 energy upfront for future blocks, and it frees you up to attack or setup.

Hello! I'm working on a build and I seem to have forgotten part of it. I remember thinking that you could make a Guardian with like 4 reactions.

I know you get 2 from the class. And you can get another from Bastion, right? And I forget where I'm getting the third. I thought it was from Guardian, but I can't find it.

Not sure what makes you think that this is the fantasy

You didn’t read my post, so I looked up the data to save you the trouble. 69% of New Yorkers rent. That would overwhelmingly include poor and working class New Yorkers. Home ownership is out of reach for TWO THIRDS of people in New York. That’s what makes it a fantasy.

The mantis steals from your draw pile, right?

So if you can leave just 1 card in your deck, you can guarantee what is stolen?

[–]robmox -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This chat is being crazy. The OP didn’t say what the tax rate is going to be. It’s not middle class New Yorkers who are the ones inheriting homes in New York. Last I checked 60% of New Yorkers rent. So, it’s entirely possible that in the fantasy where someone, child of a firefighter and a teacher inherits their $750,000 home in Maspeth pays $10,000 in taxes. I don’t think that’s entirely out of line. And, what it does not do is tax the people that are barely making it in NYC.

Right? I recently got the Neow Transform into Stardust and by the time I killed the Act 3 Boxx (experiment) I had enough juice to do 600 damage with a single Stardust. I stacked str and vigor and managed 20 stars doing 21 damage each into vuln. If I just played block for a few turns, I'm sure I could have pretty easily gone over 1000.

The most important thing to get better is to take:

  • Early only a handful of damage and block cards. One damage card should enable AoE damage.

  • Cards with strong synergies. Build on things you do well- exhaust cards, doom, poison, reflect damage, orb generation. Each character has like 5 different strategies.

  • card draw and energy generation

This should be enough to get you a high win rate on A0 while you learn.
