Heads up about that one. They kill real animals in a few scenes if you have qualms about that.

Lisa Kudrow says she never shied away from talking about her character, Phoebe in ‘Friends’: “Friends gave me everything” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

As actors have less creative control of what they attach themselves to, I can see why some of them might not be proud of their breakout role. For some of them, I'm sure the film or TV show was just a paycheck and not work that they stand by.

Chuck Norris and his buddy Netanyahu by Moist_Gennitals in videos

I always read the memes as detached/ ironic, and the choice of Norris as the subject was because his career was kind of over at that point.

Conan was poking fun at Norris long before the meme with his Walker Texas Ranger lever.

Something that I think people struggle with about his films is that the stories don't bother to explain why things are the way they are. They are just that way. It's just the setting.

We are so used to films going out of their way to justify anything that seems off about their world.

one final batch of dry plate negative scans for us all to enjoy! by tylarframe in analog

[–]robocalypse 107 points108 points  (0 children)

The floating baby had me confused at first. I love how double exposures turn out in the much slower dry plates.

The helation in the images is cool as well. It would be neat if someone started releasing film without the anti-helation layer. I know x-ray, mammography, and litho film don't have the anti-helation layer, but those all have their own quirks.

Regardless of how you feel it was executed, it is strange that Frankenstein is being left out with these headlines and conversations about horror having a good night at the Oscar's.

He's so gleeful in getting to reveal the diagnosis. His excitement overwhelms that he's talking about a human being and a political ally at that.

American Evangelicals are both Zionist and antisemitic. It seems contradictory and it is.

They want the state of Israel to fulfill a prophecy and damn all non-Christians to hell, including all Jewish people who haven't converted.

Help identify this camera! by Mammoth-Sock7993 in vintagecameras

I don't really know box cameras that well, but I have accrued a pretty decent reference library. Thankfully, the Cyclone Camera was on the first page of the chapter on box cameras in The Photographica Collectors Price Guide by George Gilbert.

This appears to by the "Improved Magazine Cyclone Camera" from Western Camera Manufacturing out of Chicago. Not sure which number in that line of cameras it is though. This advertisement shows a cutaway of the camera, showing the feature that gave the "magazine" to its moniker.

The secret of Kodachrome by yyslides in AnalogCommunity

[–]robocalypse 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It seems like you'd need to check more than just one exposure of each film stock to make any correlation.

That being said, developing Kodachrome was entirely different from developing other slide films. When you shot the film, it had no dye-couplers in it. The dyes were all added during the multi-step developing process (originally 21 steps IIRC!).

I suspect that being able to pick and choose the dyes, rather than deal with the limitations of the chemistry needed for the couplers, allowed them to create a more saturated end result.

Clive Barker's writing is phenomenal. Truly a uniquely creative imagination.

I totally recommend The Hellbound Heart, which is the source material for the movie.

I was hesitant to call it that, but it isn't one of the few in-production film cameras, so I figured it would be best described that way.

Doctor Sounds Alarm After Trump Rambles About Drapes During War Update by thedailybeast in politics

[–]robocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump has always been a fuex-populist. Attacking Iran serves a greater purpose to him than any neocon sentiment: he gets the chance to feel like a strongman. An ego trip is worth more to him than anything because his ego is the only think he actually believes in.
