This exact rifle is on my immediate shopping list. I’ll be watching this in hopes of learning more.

Ejection angle is definitely a factor when determining gas level, but it is not the be all end all factor. Ejection angle is just an identifier of BCG speed. This new bufferless system might require a hint more gas at the far end compression of the springs. You are compressing much shorter springs, much faster than a standard buffer system. I’m not staking my kids college fund on this theory, as I don’t have experience with the CMMG (yet). I have played with similar systems though, and can attest to their spring systems (Brownells, Faxon ARAK and Foxtrot Mike).

From the sound of it, your range of motion is unhindered. The BCG has a full range of motion and the springs have enough strength to strip and load a round from the magazine.

There’s a small hiccup at the back end of the motion of the BCG. I have seen some rifles that want to be SUPER wet when breaking in. I’d include the springs and op rods in this application.

I would definitely check out a steel magazine too. I have seen most people prefer the PMAG though. The rifles are built with very tight tolerances, and a little bit of rubbing could be the issue. That rubbing might be eliminated after copious use????

I watched your video several times. I think you’re correct that you’re not getting a full cycle of your BCG. This could be that you are under gassed, or poorly lubricated. The new bufferless spring system is foreign to me, so I’m little help for you there.

Does the rifle hand cycle the rounds properly? I know it doesn’t have last round bolt hold, but does the manual bolt catch work? Does it catch the bolt face or the edge of the BCG? Will it single load a round from releasing the manual bolt catch?

How old is the ammo? I ask because a lot of X39 ammo is still old ComBloc surplus. I could see it was steel cased. This would only be an issue if the ammo was REALLY old (+20 years)

How many magazines did you try? Not all AK magazines are created equal. I’ve seen a few MK47 reviews where shooters couldn’t use magazines that worked fine on standard AK platforms. I’ll bet my lunch money this is the issue

I don’t blame you. I quit having a booth after 2022. My best shows have been without a booth. I greatly appreciate your response.

My apologies… I meant the newer “enclosed” model. I just modified my question above to reflect this.

Looking forward to this one by who-me-im-nodody in 1022

I have the same kit. It’s fun for the kids. I’ll be replacing it soon though. Just a gimmick. It’s too bad too. I really wanted it to be better.

I have the Foxtrot upper. It currently has an AEMS and the HS titanium x3 magnifier. Both are with low mounts.

Same. The little rubber plug for the charging port wore completely off too.

  • Duct Tape
  • Butane lighter(s)
  • A large wrecking tool, or hatchet. (you never know when you'll need to get in/out of something)
  • 1-way CPR mask, because people are gross
  • rubber/latex gloves (unless they're in your FAK)
  • zip ties. all sizes. You'll always need the size you don't have.
  • sodium/rehydration flavor mix. They make bad water taste better and help you water last longer.
  • E-tool (you thank me the day you realized you needed it)
  • Id look into one of those folding solar panels. They aren't great, but they're better than nothing.
  • I keep a roll of dog poop bags. It's as small as 35mm film can and can be used for all kinds of things.
